Jazz Draft Jared Butler

How does this get us closer to beating the clippers exactly?
We were never gonna get the guy that solved our achilles heal in this draft and ready for this upcoming season. That was always trade/free agency.

At the very least, the Jazz got any young talent worth a god damn which they desperately need and some marginal assets that it turns out are actually worth something. That might not matter next year, but we need to be thinking about getting some dudes next to Donovan on his timeline before he forces his way out.

TLDR; you celebrate wins when you get them. Tonight was YUGE.

I'm not saying this dude is gonna be better than Donovan but I'm more excited about him than I was Donovan on draft night 2017. I wasn't sold on Donovan's jumper or his ability to run an offense. Butler looks NBA ready on both fronts out of the box or damn close.

Anyone that wants to knock the pick go out and watch the national championship game first… then ask yourself who the best player on the floor was… then go look up where the other guys were drafted… TIA.

Geez… really?
So you aren't concerned about fixing our obvious deficiencies? Geez...really?

These are the only comments instead of making a coherent argument how we are any better at all.

I of course never expected an earth-shattering pick at 30... Let alone at 40... But yet again we draft a clone of players we already have. We are still shooting for high floor and low ceilings when it is the ceilings that win in the playoffs.

So I'm decidedly underwhelmed. We moved back, got a decent overall player, and some 2nds. Ok. Next?
The Jazz drafted a playable player. Got 2 extra 2nd round picks, and saved around $4 million dollars by drafting him where they did. Who would you have proposed they draft to fix the defensive wing issues? Because I’m gonna say this draft went just fine and a lot better than last years. Zanick saved 4 million and got 2, 2nd round picks just to draft the guy they wanted at 30, at 40. By the way, his defense is also pretty decent.
Finally a cogent argument/explanation. I was expecting just to continually get some version of "fush u u dum" as per usual.

I acknowledge all that of course. I'm willing to bet there were at least 2 or 3 guys that filled a bigger need at similar levels of BPA-ness, rather than drafting more clones of players we have and who might have had a somewhat lower floor but a higher potential ceiling. But maybe not.

Either way, at least this year it is "meh" instead of "what the **** are they doing?"

I don’t think you understand Jared Butler. I think you will though when summer league starts. This isn’t some “meh” guy. This is arguably the best player on the national championship team.

This guy’s floor is rotation player, and he’s probably an NBA starter level player. At pick No. 40. Not at all a high floor, low-ceiling type. He’s a high floor,
high ceiling type.

To your point — we definitely need perimeter defense, and the fact that there was no Favors salary dump or mass purchase of late seconds for cheap contracts tonight suggests to me we may have another deal in the works to address just that.

I am extremely hyped over the pick… so much so that I am having constant thoughts of moving Conley for a wing and handing Butler the keys. I may have drank the entire gallon of kool-aid though.

Yeah yuge is a yuge stretch. This is more ok fine. I hope the guy can contribute right away as many seem to think. Apparently as per his tournament play it's a gigantic shocker he wasn't taken first.

This is still crazy awesome. Wade isn’t going to bring us any super stars by any means, but being welcomed to the Jazz by Dwyane f***** Wade is a huge positive as an organization.

We are all in agreement with you the Jazz still need to make roster moves. Saving the $3-5 million here is a big deal considering where the Jazz money issues sit. Trade Joe or Bogey to address the defensive issues if you can, use your TPMLE, sign a vet minimum player, and now you have 2, 2nd round draft picks to throw into those trades, or hell one to use if you truly want to dump Favors money that bad and you still got the player you wanted to draft. Jazz need to do more, but tonight was a success imo.
