Favors to OKC in works (Update: Traded)

This was always going to happen. Sucks but we get to pay for DL’s sins. Hopefully it’s got lotto protection and turns into two seconds. We are all in!!!! Except the 50M we just saved.
Why did we have to make this decision right now? Couldn't we have waited? What happens if Rudy gets a month long injury? Or comes back exhausted from the Olympics?

We save money but we might hurt our "title chances" by not being deep enough.

Because to trade him into cap space a team has to have cap space. There won’t be any teams with that much space going into the season. Once Charlotte got Plumlee we were kinda screwed if the mandate was to get off of salary.

Flexibility going into FA. That why it's also prime trade season.

OKC has to fill space or pay fines. They are miles underneath though. We had time for this deal.

This reminds me of all those deals we did giving assets to shed money and we still were over the tax.

This deal isn't basketball. It's cost saving. And it sucks.

If OKC cuts Favors Jazz can re-sign for much less if they want him back
When you trade a player, I think the rule is that you either have to wait one year or until his current deal expires until you can re-sign him. The league made this rule when Zydrunas Ilgauskas was traded from the Cavs, bought out and re-signed with the Cavs in a matter of a couple of weeks IIRC.

This Favors trade checks some important boxes
Insures Udoka gets a chance
Saves a lot of money so Jazz can sign Conley

Favors is done with Utah and we are done with him. We should have traded him years and years ago instead of yanking him around like this. The guy could have been a borderline all star center but we and Derrick insisted on playing PF.

What a terrible signing that was last summer for all parties except Favors' agent.

There aren't many teams with cap space that can absorb a massive contract without sending something in return. It dries up quickly before FA and the price for shedding salary will likely go up for contending teams. It had to be done sooner rather than later.

It would be crime against humanity if it's not at the very least lottery protected. This is the culmination of series of bad decisions. We've spent 3 first round picks and 4 second round picks for backup centers over the last 4 years. BACK UP CENTERS. The least valuable position and most easily acquirable. And we still don't have a back up center for sure.

It sucks to give up picks, but it’s all you can do. Will make LT easier to swallow. At least they were kind enough to give us a 2nd from their bag of picks.

DL screwed the pooch and we are selling for pennies on the dollar. It’s a sink cost so move on.

If we are keeping Conley, we are not getting out of the luxury tax.
Exactly. So I don't want to hear another person saying "we are going all in" for a title. You don't shed an asset with a useful player if you are "all in".

And I'm not even a massive believer in Favors, but he can spend minutes guarding AD, Giannis, Jokic, etc.

Disappointing

I am but I’m not. It’s a move that had to happen and I’m excited as **** to see Udoka who has massive upside imo.
