Jazz Offseason Plan

In the next couple of weeks you are going to see a bunch of players hit the waiver wire in the form of salary dumps, his team signs a free agent and he has to go for cap purposes or some sign and trade swaps and the receiving team just doesn't want the player.

Chicago is putting together a big offer for Lonzo Ball. Thad Young, Daniel Theis and Ryan Archi...whatever are available.

I think the Jazz would go after Nic Batum before Otto Porter.
Yeah but Clippers are gonna have the edge there. Porter might fly under the radar with his health issues and be a candidate to gamble on. I really think we shouldn’t spend much mental energy entertaining the idea of Batum.

I think Gay is a good candidate IF the Jazz are allowed to S&T Niang to the Spurs, otherwise he will probably go to a premier market/franchise if the offer is the same.

So I think Porter is worth targeting, otherwise it’s Torrey Craig or scouring the G-League/Europe.

Kawhi is out all next year, and Rudy is talking in Batum's ear every day during the Olympics.

Kawhi being out is just as likely to be a selling point as it is a detracting factor if he’s looking for a greater role/minutes.

But yeah, Batum is basically universally seen as high on the list so I hope you’re right.

I think the Batum stuff comes from playoff PTSD where we saw him be competent but nail a bunch of key (wide open) threes. He’s solid all around, and we could definitely use that, but I think there may be a few guys who could do that who would be more relatively undervalued to Batum because of our decency bias compounded by trauma.
