Something about waiting for trades to complete that were hinging on other deals. I would presume if they let us hold a press conference then he should be good to go, but I have no idea.
IDK why it hasn’t gone through unless the league year has to turn first. It may be partly about his contract because there are some options there… it’s not like with a first rounder (which is one reason it may have been wiser to take him in the first but oh well).

We could wait until FA opens up too. I believe we can offer him a two year deal but if we use part of the taxpayer MLE we can do a three year deal. If we find there isn’t anyone awesome that will take our MLE then you use 1M of the exception to tack another year on the deal.

Drafted guys have played in summer league without contracts since forever. I'm really puzzled about the trade not being finalized but for some reason we can hold a press conference. At least be consistent.

Not sure if this negotiation will be similar to other years… because he was a higher rated prospect but also has some injury stuff he may want to get money locked in before suiting up… we also might want to understand our full options prior to signing that deal.

If I'm Butler's agent I'm working hard to get him a sizable chunk of guaranteed money

He technically does not belong to the Jazz until after the Salt Lake league is finished as that is when the trade is finally approved for salary cap purposes.

I don't know why the press conference was allowed, but my understanding is that our acquisition of Butler depends on the Pels/Grizz trade, which depends on the new season's books being opened. Thus it will only go through on or after August 6.

The rosters were released and some new names added. They have an elderly gentlemen at 31 years old Kyle Fogg who has averaged 24.7 ppg his last seven pro seasons, Danny Green's brother who played at Indiana, Shaqqan Aaron who was Spida's teammate briefly at the Ville, Kyle Allman MVP of the Big West Conference, Isiah Wright who played a couple of years for the U of Utah, and Jawan Evans a PG who was a 2nd round pick in 2017. This batch of guys all look like they are vying for the Spencer Butterfield or the Trombone Player Memorial award.
