What's new

Dear Jordan Clarkson

I am not really concerned about his slump but the way he is trying to break out of it..oh my. I was waiting for him to start jacking half court shots.

I can only imagine what the feelings about Clarkson would be like around here if we’d lost a couple more games.

I think when they say to shoot yourself out of a slump, they most likely are not talking about the kind of shots JC was taking last night. Although, this is JC, and those are the kinds of shots he takes and makes on the regular.

He should probably focus on the nifty paint acrobatics he uses to get shots closer to the rim, or draw fouls and get some free throws. I guess I don't really know if that really works. It was pretty bad though. That was some of the highest volume of awful looking and resulting shots I've seen in the NBA.

Yeah, JC is in a funk, but the reality is that he's proven over the long haul that he can effectively contribute. I'm inclined to believe the greater body of work vs. a blip in time.

If that was the case, the way we look at the stock market would be pretty warped.

Bolerjack: "Clarkson just needs to see a couple of these half-court shots fall and it will help boost his confidence at the 3-point line."

I was thinking about this earlier today. If we support Clarkson in this time of bad shooting - and somehow let him know we love him and believe in him - it's going to mean a lot more to him (and the Jazz players) than only supporting him when he plays well. JC is our boy and he has brought the second unit awesomeness. I believe in the JC.

PS. JC stands for Jalepino Churro and without Jalepinos there is no Rally Churro. Respect.
"In-group unity is founded on our moral sentiments, our sensibilities for cohesion. This sociologist, Emile Durkheim, spoke well of it. So did the eminent biologist, E.O. Wilson, who was otherwise preoccupied with ants. The social psychologist Jonathan Haidt nods in this direction too. Forward! Let us lift ale to in-group cohesion, cheer on Mr. Jordan Clarkson, support him when he is of ill disposition and celebrate when he throws basketballs from afar into baskets."

I do wonder if something is going on with the new ball. Lots of dudes struggling with the three… lots of guys that shoot pull-ups. IDK… shootings is down like 3% and there are notable dudes not hitting. Luka, Dame, and lesser shooter like Fox, JC, Lowry.

It may not be 100% of the problem… but would it be insane to think it affects some guys more than others and that it has turned a normal slump into a full on crisis? I have not felt the new ball yet… I assume it’s real leather like the other one. At the gym we only play with Wilson solutions… but they are not real leather and likely a lot softer than the real thing.

Here's an alternate theory using some back of the napkin math:

If one 3pt shot per game that was previously called a foul is now called a 3pt fga, then that could reduce 3pt fg%. For example: 3/8=.375 and 3/9= .333.

Those awkward, off balanced lean in 3's to draw a foul are probably mostly misses, unless you are Jae Crowder.

Good thinking

That drop is consistent across open and wide open 3's as well so I don't think it has to do with the new rules. I think the new ball is the biggest, but at the same time we haven't heard that many players complain about it and really none before the season started. It is early, however, and I think offenses have typically started slow historically. We had a couple recent years where the offenses were good at the beginning but those appear more to be like outliers.

Simple. Get a rope.

I mean, if you guys just look up this season's numbers for some of the best players in the league you'd be shock. Broken jumpshot is a common theme in the NBA right now.

Looking at JC's numbers reminded me of Rodney Hood. Kinda crazy how their paths crossed and how different their careers ended up. Hood was kind of the Clarkson before Clarkson. He was in the chucker role right before he got traded and his numbers were pretty close to JC's. Hood ended up never getting the big paycheck. Ironically, he got his biggest contract when recovering from an achilles.

I still believe in the alternate universe where Exum, Mitchell, Hood, Hayward, and Gobert won 12 championships in a row. What a shame.

I am frustrated with his shooting and I am sure he is too. I am not giving up on him. However he needs to know that he is 0-8 so try something else besides jacking a 3-pt attempt without even passing. He to try passing or take it to the basket. JC isn't the only one who has a problem changing tactics during the game. It is the major weakness on offense.

Dear JC,

Please tear **** up tonight so I am not sad. TIA
