I assume you're referring to Favors, Kanter, Okur, Millsap and Jefferson. They do not all need to play 24 mpg (I'm looking at you Mehmet and Enes) and Millsap can play some of his minutes at the 3. I'm thinking Big Al and Favors at 31 mpg, Millsap at 16 mpg (and 15 more at the 3), Enes at 13 mpg and Okur at 5 mpg. Keep in mind too that at some point, someone (or more) will go down with injury and that the other four guy's time (and thereby average time per game) will go up. In addition, to me, Okur does not need to play at all. Loyalty is VASTLY overrated and we owe him nothing. If anything, he owes it to the organization to be professional and sit on the bench while collecting his hefty paycheck until he has proven that he deserves said time. In short, there's no way he'll prove he deserves more time than anyone else on this list other than perhaps Enes. But I think Enes would physically dominate him in practice and push him to fifth on the list, perhaps to the point that Memo's even collecting DNP's on certain nights.

Okur has played pretty well in Turkey. Looks like he is pretty much recovered from the injury. Give him a chance. The Money Man is not done yet.

When people talk about the draft they alway say draft bpa reguardless of who's on the team already. I think the same thought process should go into this "trade a big" thing. We have 2 good to great bigs and 3 question marks. Why rush into anything. Let see how they gel before we go shipping somebody off.

And for the record, if they do trade somebody I really hope it's not Millsap. His effort and energy mean more to this team than any stats do. He is the Matt Harpering of today's Jazz.

I'm sure this is an either/or scenario being floated, based on Favors being able to start at either PF or C.
We would actually be more flexible lineup-wise trading Jefferson, who IMO isn't quick enough to be effective defensively at PF. Millsap on the surface appears to be more attractive to potential trading partners.

From my understanding any current contract can be amnestied. There is only one per team, but you can make a trade and then amnesty someone.

This is huge! Of course KOC would let it be known to others that Al and Millsap are available. (I suspect it doesn't violate the rules as long as he doesn't mention players under contract to other teams.) The amnesty rule pretty much makes all trades possible and it is going to cause a trading frenzy. Teams like the Jazz, who don't have an amnesty-worthy player, are going to throw out bait and see what they can catch. It is no longer important to get back something of equal value: "Sure, we'll take the crapy player off your hands, just throw in your #1 pick for 2013." And the bigger the salary you are trading, the more options are availabe. So imagine what kind of deals are possible if you have nearly $20 million in play and you don't care if half of what you get back is garbage.

Cocky attitude? In all the interviews I have heard he seems pretty down to earth. He does have that "Too cool for school" relaxed personality, but he seems pretty humble to me.

He has some of the same cool, cocky body language as Monta Ellis....which isn't a bad thing on offense.

So if I'm in the Jazz's front office and I'm content with the new CBA giving me a better share of league-wide BRI and helping me break even on the current (albeit shortened) season, maybe I don't feel as much immediate pressure to win this year. So, I float my big-ticket players that have trade value on the market, and I don't worry so much if we make the playoffs. Some of the financial pressure to put a winning product on the floor has been alleviated at least. Plus, it's going to be tough to pull together the new young players and a new system with no real training camp anyway, and I don't yet foresee being able to beat the top teams in either conference. Best case scenario, we sneak into the playoffs and win a few games. So maybe I sit back a bit, look at potential trades, look at the upcoming draft, etc. and get ready to lay it on the line the following season.

Just thinking out loud. I have to say, I get more into this now that I've seen that movie "Moneyball."

At that time Harp was coming off a borderline all-star season and had best production to value of contract in the NBA - he was also vastly overrated. He was a 6th man that they easily could have traded for another starter. Instead they waited and were stuck with his two bad knees.

I hate to compare Millsap to Harpring; but The Jazz may have a similar scenario on their hands.

Except Millsap has knees and passes. The mistake was extending Harpring 4 years, not keeping him. Would this franchise be in any better of a place had they done that?

I don't know and neither do you. I do know his trade value was expoenentially higher than his worth. Perhaps they could have traded him in 2004 for a real SG instead of playing Giricek and Fisher when they competed in the conference finals just a few years later.
