Free Agent Target - Prince

I would love a free agent offseason that we sign Tayshaun Prince for the full mid-level exception and Earl Watson for veterans' exception.

Prince would push Miles to the bench and give us a difference maker on defense. Watson would be the backup point guard again.

A line up of

Harris/Hayward/Prince/Favors/Jefferson with a bench of Watson/Burks/Miles/Millsap/Kanter would be a playoff team IMO.

We might need to amnesty Memo to stay under the luxury tax.

I think Prince is over-rated, but he is still solid. He is a good defender and plays hard, and could add some veteran savvy and stability. He also would not be a bad mentor for Hayward/Burks as he has succeeded as a solid wing on a championship team. I would give him a shot for the exception, but not a lot more.

I think if charlie murphy's story isn't enought to vouche for trading away top players for a great musical performer and singer. What do you think he'll make you PANCAKES after the game. geeezzzz and you guys think im THE NOOB wow

I wouldn't be against Prince for 2011-12. The problem is when you get into 2012-13, 2013-14 (sorry but he's not signing a 1-yr deal). I don't really want a 32-33 yr old wing on the books for a full midlevel, especially when I have young players in Hayward, Burks, potentially the 2012 GS pick as well as a crowded frontcourt that could yeild another wing. There should be lessons learned from a majority of teams that spend their full midlevel on 30-year old FA's.

Don't see it, but don't hate the idea either.

Werd. And for the most part, agree with everyone else here (like a more well-rounded, less pouty AK, but doesn't really make sense for the Jazz with his age or that he's likely to sign with a team willing to eat the last year or two of his deal).

And those two last years that the Jazz would have to "eat" would be years they need the cap space to re-sign some of the younger players who will no longer be on rookie contracts. No to Prince. Yes to developing Burks and Hayward and possibly their 1st round pick next season - very good chance they draft a SF.

I guess it is a question of are seriously are we trying to compete this year? Play the young guns and hope we get an 8 seed? Or do we try and make our starters the best we can?

I think the short year helps old teams more than young teams.
This is a year to grow and learn and gel.
Next year is the year we should really get things clicking.
I don't think we want to add an old player just to compete this year if it hurts us in the long run.

Even WITH Prince, the Jazz would not contend for a title this year. So do you try to perhaps grab the 5th/6th seed while endangering the long-term success of the franchise (i.e. a bad contract in a couple of seasons)? Or do you opt for player development and probably a pick - maybe even two - in what should be a very good draft?

This season I doubt we sign ANY vet FA's except our own. In a short pre-season and season, they would struggle to learn and/or fit into our team system.

While I agree with what you're saying, I am afraid 90% of our team is going to struggle to fit into our "team system". That being said, I think we are going to do juuuuussttt ffiiiiinnnneee! :)

No to Prince. I like him as a player but we do not need old expensive players on this team right now. We need to develop the young talent that we have.
