Boozer Agrees to Terms With Bulls (5 yrs/80 mil)

edit:
....if we want to go in another direction, then Head is the way to go!....he's a hopper with hops!!!

Ya caint be no hopper without hops, eh, CJ!?

Actually, Head is probably the kind of player Sloan would love. He has always been praised for his work ethic, his "professionalism," and his self-discipline. He is coachable.

I was always a fan of Boozer's offensive game, but I don't understand why people are so upset that he's leaving. 80 million is a ridiculous amount of money to pay someone with Boozer's injury history. I am not too concerned about the scoring because I believe that any deficit that Millsap has scoring can be made up by either D-Will, or Hayward or other players. The issue really is who is going to back up Millsap long term. When he comes out that's when it is going to hurt. Millsap has a lot to prove, I can't wait to see him do it.

Kirilenko.

Ditto.

Just heard on KFAN. Why did we not try a S&T??
Who do you want back?
Better to be free and clear. Now KOC has to hold firm on NOT re-signing Korver. If that happens the Jazz - even with AK's $17M deal - will be very close to the luxury tax threshold. And that means KOC can field offers of all varieties for AK's expiring. Utah won't have to do a salary dump. Best case would be to get a couple of good players + a draft pick. A lot of teams will be looking to dump salaries. Clippers (Dalembert) and Jazz (AK) will be in the best position to offer a ton of relief. Let's start a bidding war and see what we can get in terms of players and picks at the deadline.

Holy crap. Reading through the thread and I am shocked there are people actually upset with this. These must be the people who have absolutely zero long-term vision. If this team re-signed Carlos Boozer at his market value, we would have been a just above average 1st/2nd round team until Deron Williams left in 2012. I'm sorry, but I'm not too keen on going the way of the Seattle Sonics. I'd rather them just move the team to Vegas tomorrow than put up with that kind of purgatory. I'd rather win 40 games next year and have a chance to win it all 3 years from now than continue to win 50 games and get knocked out early in the playoffs for the next 3.

Obviously, we couldn't sign Boozer at this price, not with our current roster. Like him or not, IMO, he's a top 5 PF in the league. I love Sap, but he isn't Boozer, and he won't be. I think an interesting question to consider is, if we didn't have AK on the books, and you were KOC, would you have extended this 5 year 80 million dollar offer to Boozer?

Looking back, I think it would have been best if the Jazz hadn't matched Sap or extended Memo. We could have resigned Boozer and gone after a true defensive center and looked for a star 2 guard next off season. Oh well, it is what it is, the only thing to do now is wait and see what this current team can produce. I will be shocked if we get within 5 wins of last seasons record.

42 wins is about what I am expecting with this roster. As much as I believe in having a deep bench and having a good regular season record, I'm thinking more and more the starting 5 is about the only thing that matters, and the Jazz have 1 stud and 6 guys who are semi-decent. Let's not kid ourselves here guys, we just lost our second best player. Sure we will have that money to spend later on, but we've got to convince an absolute all star big man to come to Utah before Deron's deal is up or we'll be in pretty rough shape.

Jazz will be better without Boozer!

I did not read this whole thread, title, or 200+ posts....

Jazz will be better without Boozer! Millsap won't have to worry about Boozer calling out for "his" boards, Kirilenko won't have to worry about upsetting Boozer's offensive flow with his random/creative cuts, everyone else on D (especially any big men we get) won't have to cheat to help cover up for Boozers mistakes. Repeat, Jazz will be better without Boozer!

I couldn't disagree with this post more. I don't think Carlos was our 2nd best player. I don't think the Jazz should have signed Boozer to this contract even if they had 50M dollars to spend. This is going to be an AK'esc albatross of a contract from day 1. He is not going to put up 20/10 in a different system than this one and he is not worth this contract now or ever.

The one thing I'll give you is they should not have extended Memo. Besides that your pretty much wrong IMO.

@ gregbroncs- Then who is our second best player? I didn't say he was worth 16 mil per, I asked if other posters thought he was worth it. I also didn't say this wasn't a bad contract for the Bulls, I asked if it would have been a bad contract for the Jazz, if they had the money to spend. Maybe he won't be a 20/10 guy for the bulls, but he was for the Jazz. Douche.
