If you Replaced Conley with Prime Deron Williams...

Would
Apples and oranges IMO as Malone was a prototypical power forward. If we had DWill, Mitchell, Malone, Bogey and Gobert nobody could beat us. Celtic/Laker glory days dynasty level I believe
Would you replace Mitchell or Bogey with Kirilenko? The D would be great, but we would still likely be missing shooting.

If we are playing this game, replacing Hornacek with Mitchell wins numerous titles.

We barely lost to the Bulls. MJ didn't even have to work that hard guarding Hornacek while Pippen guarded Stockton.

Or replace anybody on that Stock/Malone bench with prime Joe Ingles.

Just swap Tag with Gobert, and we win all the titles. No other changes necessary.

Man, I’d forgotten how those Finals teams really didn’t have anyone worth a damn besides the big 3. Ingles by himself really would have been enough to put them over the top.

Anywho, I’d take prime Deron over Mitchell.

It would have been so fun watching prime Joe go at MJ. I think he would have frustrated MJ. It's amazing how more athletic and long players are now than back in those days.

That's a close one between Don and Prime Deron. I'm know I'm a fanboy, but I give the nod to Don. His playoff performances have been truly special.

Since we are just ****ing around with past and present line-ups, here is my Jazz dream team. 13 deep, splitting eras a bit. All in their prime years of course.

Starters

PG - Stockton
SG - Mitchell
SF - Russell
PF - Malone
C - Gobert

Bench

PG - D Will
SG - Hornacek
SF - Ingles
PF - Kirilenko
C - Memo

Depth

Tag
Boozer
Royce
Hayward

I debated leaving Hayward off because he is a douchebag but he really is one of the best players we could have on the deep bench because he is such a 2-way threat. Frankly he is what we need on our current team, as much as I cannot stand the guy.

I also debated some of the more dynamic scorers like Maravich or Dantley on the deep bench and opted for solid D and the 3 pt shot from the deep bench, along with rebounding with Boozer to sub in for Malone now and then. But all of it is debatable of course. Just add either one of them if we want to be at the current 15 active roster. Probably Maravich as he was such a dynamic creator. He is another one who would be on another level in today's game where his documented range was crazy. Before the 3 point shot he was nearly at logo range on a lot of his outside shots. He was Curry before Curry and before the benefits of the 3 point line.

I think that starting 5 rips through the league frankly. Russell, Malone, Stock and Gobert are a defensive 4 of our dreams, they all were or are world-class defensive players. We have 3 shooters from deep and good luck for anyone containing Malone. Plus I think if Malone were in this age he would develop his 3 pt shot to at least about 35% which is good enough to make him nigh unstoppable. With Mitchell to add a new offensive dimension to the Stockton to Malone dynamic, who would stop us from scoring anywhere on the floor?

The bench would be a solid starting 5 by themselves. and imagine the matchup nightmares if we subbed Joe at the 2 and brought in Kirilenko at the 5? Stockton, Ingles, Russell, Kirilenko and Gobert? Who scores on you then? And from where? And we would be running and gunning with that group. I wonder how many 3's Stockton would have averaged in today's NBA where he was one of the best 3 point shooters at the PG spot in his time. And Hornacek. Imagine if he had the green light all of our guys do. Even in an era where the 3 was viewed as a novelty he set and still holds the Jazz record for most 3s in a game and most 3s without a miss. Would be get 12 in today's game at some point? 14? Noice!

That would be a lot of fun all right.

I can’t even convince people that Deron should have his number retired, so I’ll say no. Lol
Problem was he left on such a bitter note. That lingers a lot longer than the good stuff. Think of a rough breakup, in the future you are far more likely to think of the bad things that happened during the month the breakup happened than the good things that happened during the 3 years of the relationship or whatever. He will never get his jersey retired for that reason. Unless he somehow now becomes part of the organization for whatever reason, that ship has sailed.

Oh I realize that’s the roadblock. I personally think it’s been long enough to move on and honor the best player on the best team since The Stockton/Malone era, but I realize I’m in the minority on that. After all, they retired AD’s number and he was a way bigger dickhead, but that’s a whole other rant.

Yeah but I think AD patched things up with Miller, I seem to remember a feel-good article about them having a long conversation after a game where AD was on the coaching staff or something. Could be mis-remembering, but that kind of thing goes a long way. I think if D Will reached out to the org and patched things up you would see it change. I wouldn't mind him coming in and providing color now and then. Could do worse.
