I’ve never listened to any of his episodes and I never will. Doesn’t sound like I’m missing anything worth listening to. Apparently he’s used the N word in 70 episodes. How has it taken him this long to get in trouble? If I ever said any of these things, I’d be fired on the spot and you’d see my name all over KSL. This is ****ing disgusting:

Maybe I’m too comfortable with my own masculinity and don’t need to listen to this ****, buy thousands of dollars in guns, or drive an oversized truck, but I just don’t get the draw other than unhealthy masculinity here. This is just so vulgar and stupid. On top of everything Rogan’s stupid. Like here, this isn’t enlightening. Like this kind of info isn’t even hard to get. Maybe I should start a podcast and make millions sounding like 1 of the many idiots at the gym who don’t read any books and can’t keep any girlfriends.

I guess some of my thoughts (some of them are contradictory) are:

1. Rogan is the most popular podcaster in America maybe even the world and this is the garbage he spouts? No wonder why Trump won, we’re okay with children in cages, and millions refuse to get vaccinated. We have a large segment of our population lacking in virtue. Rogan to me represents a stupid and decadent culture. People who find this entertaining should try reading a book sometime… or having an actual in-person relationship with a woman. Could be life changing!
2. I’m anti cancel culture but I also believe in accountability. If artists remove their music from Spotify or if subscribers cancel over Rogan, then good. That’s the free market responding! Good decent folks SHOULD stand up for decency. If Rogan, David Duke, and Alex Jones want to start their own disgusting and racist Spotify, then they should go and do that.
3. I believe tech companies have been irresponsible in what types of media they promote. Facebook, Instagram, and Spotify are contributing to the degradation of our society. They really need to step up. Again, let decent people have their platforms and let the disgusting and racist folks have theirs.
4. Although a big part of my job is using technology and teaching folks how to use technology, I do often wonder if the ease at which we possess information or send out information is actually a detriment.

For example, 20 years ago if I got mad at something, I didn’t have an online audience to spout off to. If I got angry at someone or a business, I’d actually have to write a letter, find a stamp, find their address, etc. in that time I’d usually think better of it. Today? I can commit career suicide from the comfort of house on my phone.
Likewise, folks are consuming vulgar and horrible information, videos, and images instantly and through their phones. There’s no price to pay. There’s no effort in having to research anything. There’s no vetting of information using Google. I can read the dumbest Covid vaccine conspiracies, watch porn, or consume vulgar podcasts from someone’s basement that would never be aired on am radio, all on my phone.

Is this a good thing?

I have no idea who those people are or what show this is. Let’s concentrate on Rogan. If we want to broaden it out to the effects (positive and negative) of technology and the ease we have of consuming information (good and bad) that’s fine too. But I don’t exactly have any interest in engaging in whataboutism today.

Someone posted a YouTube video and created a thread in 2015 and I responded to it. Cmon dude, you’re really grasping at straws.

They have 14 million subscribers and 8 billions views since 2002. Very progressive views.
I don’t watch them or listen to their podcasts, because I choose not to. But I don’t believe they should be canceled.

Not getting into whataboutism. This is a loser childish argument and I have no interest in pursuing this. Sorry.

I don’t believe government should be in the censoring business. However, I absolutely believe that social media platforms have a tremendous responsibility to ensure that they’re not merely monetizing on the disinformation, hate, and disunity that their algorithms promote. Facebook and Instagram are terrible at this. They’re responsible for so much pain, death, hatred, and sickness around the world. They alone can bring down liberal democracy in ways that enemies of democracy could’ve only dreamed of.

artists/entertainers need to be held accountable. If they step over the line then they need to pay some sort of a price. That’s… how they know that what they’re doing is wrong.

The public/consumers need to have enough virtue to reject the hate, disinformation, and garbage produced by entertainers, grifters, etc. that absolutely means cancelling subscriptions and maintaining boycotts of artists/companies that they don’t support. It’s called the free market!

Isn't it sad that there's such a large audience for such filth? I don't get the draw other than bored middle class folks wanting to feel like they're still top jock in high school. Rogan is nothing more than Rush Limbaugh. Erich Fromm @Red talks about this. There's something empowering with entertainers saying the most crude and vilest things and there's something empowering to listeners to be given permission to listen to and sometimes act out these worse impulses.

A person could have gone over the Rogan uses to explain why all of them are condemnations of the use of that word, except that doesn't seem to be what Rogan is doing. Instead, they try to distract and make accusations of hypocrisy. Even if the accusations of hypocrisy are correct, that doesn't mean what Rogan was saying is acceptable.

This seems to be the fashion lately. People who know nothing about guns want to argue in gun debates. People who don't have daughters in competitive sports, a solid grasp on performance biology, or the actual regulations think they have something to contribute to the controversy over biological males competing in divisions set up for women. People with next to no exposure to Black Americans have so much conviction in their opinions that they'll condemn the opinions of Black people if they don't match their own opinion. I don't even know where to begin on COVID, masks, lockdowns, etc.

I do applaud you for at least admitting your ignorance before continuing on with your opinion. I suppose that is what the internet is for but it does grate sometimes.

If you don't think that one of the most popular podcasters in the world and the most watched cable network in America is contributing to the prolonging of covid and the sickness and death of hundreds of thousands of America, then I don't know what to tell you. True, government might not have the right to censor this. But that doesn't meet that the rest of society should tolerate it. And I'm merely focusing on Covid. The rampant racism and sexism on Rogan's podcast also has detrimental effects on society.
