NAW's sophomore season definitely showed promise. This year though...dreadful. IMO, the difference between Paschall is that Paschall had skills to hang his hat on. He was a dominant paint scorer and at least had the reputation of being a tough defender. NAW is pretty awful at the thing he's supposed to be good at.

You might be right. I don't haven't watched the Pelicans enough to really know if the awfulness is mainly in his shot or everywhere else in his game. The stats look like he has some possible utility as a secondary playmaker and defender who can at least produce decent counting stats on that side of the ball as a 2-guard with size.

We'll have to see. I'm hoping he has to earn minutes the same way Paschall has. He was slotted in as a Jordan Clarkson-type in NO and as an up-and-coming starter (by mistake or necessity, perhaps) with the Pels. Let's hope there's something more useful if the Jazz re-imagine his role.

Quin praised NAW's defense in the interview. They definitely not gonna let him continue the Clarkson role that he had in Pelicans. Expect NSW to stand in the corner more and try to become a 3D player. How effective will he be, is another story.

I agree this team is built better for the playoffs than last year. We really need to be healthy or we wont make it far again.

One thing is for sure, this team has to make it the Conference Finals or Finals regardless of health or anything else. If they dont I think we make decent size changes. Conference Finals also depends on how we do. If we get destroyed in that we also will make big changes.

That said I think we have a decent chance. We have a few flaws but so does every team. We have a solid team though when healthy. I think Phoenix and GS are a small step ahead of us but I think we can compete with them in a 7 game series and it will be close. Memphis is a team we dont want to play again if they stay this hot.

I think you're going to see Nickeil Alexander-Walker start to take some of Clarkson's minutes and touches on offense. Giving NAW some of Clarkson's minutes will replace a negative defensive player with a neutral one.

Lol. According to Locke he’s less efficient then Clarkson and less experienced there’s no way he takes any Clarkson minutes. I’ve also seen Clarkson be less of a ball hog and move the ball more the last two games. That’s wishful thinking on your part

Given that House isn't on the roster currently, it would seem NAW has a good shot. I really don't think the Jazz would make a mid-season trade to bring in someone they don't intend to play. The one exception to this was Matt Thomas a year ago, but that was a disconnect between Dennis Lindsey and Quin. I'll be curious to see if NAW gets some of the regular minutes that were given to Joe, and if he'll have much opportunity to play on the ball.

It's not a given that NAW will be behind Forrest in the rotation.

Yeah the last game he played for the Pelicans he had 5 turnovers. Not sure about having him play on the ball. If I'm Quin and his coaching staff, I'd ask the kid to work exclusively on off ball stuff including cutting screen and defense

I wish I could go along with this, I want to believe, but I don't. I think we needed to make a bigger move and we didn't, and I don't think this team can win the championship as is. I certainly hope I'm wrong. I hope we overperform, are hot and fully healthy come playoff time and I hope the bracket breaks right for us and we can make the conference finals. I think the conference finals are our ceiling this season, unless Phoenix has a serious injury. But that would still be a good outcome. My fear is we flame out in the first round and then we have to trade one of gobert or Mitchell. We have to hold the fourth seed so we can get Dallas in the first round--we can beat them. I think we most likely go out in the second round but have a shot at beating Golden State if they get the first seed. I don't think we're going to be able to catch Memphis at this point--they're legit.

Oh for sure. I was talking specifically with NAW, the hope is that he does things he’s terrible at better. For this season we are definitely banking on more or less the same team doing something different. I don’t think NAW will even be in the rotation. If he does, chances are he hurts this team because he badly hurt NOP when he played this season.

Nah, if he is in the rotation that means he outplayed someone to get there. That would be cool.

I definitely think his best shot at making it is to be more of a Josh Richardson/KCP type. He’s got to focus on the role player stuff first.

Paschall is the most pleasant surprise of the season IMO. We knew he had to transition his game, but I was skeptical because his skill set didn’t necessarily fit the role he had to play. I actually think NAW has more promising skills to make the transition from a +usage guy to a 3&D.

The metrics really liked NAW as a sophomore because he created turnovers. That would be a great place to start for him. If he can cause some chaos with his length and knock down some open shots he can be valuable. If he’s insistent on being a shot maker type I don’t think he can help us this year and probably not ever.

I didn’t hate this deal, especially in a vacuum. But I wish the Jazz had better plans for their defense getting guys to play defense who have been unwilling or bad defenders. We really neglected the massive issues on that end of the floor.

They went all in on this roster thinking they'd be what Phoenix is this year but they're obviously not.

It's going to be a ****-show when all we have to show for the Mitchell-Gobert-Conley era is a couple second-round losses.
