The Jazz are better built for the playoffs this year

I'm really curious to see what the playoff rotation looks like. Rotations are shortened in the playoffs and the starters play more minutes. I'm guessing Quin goes with a 9 man rotation with Whiteside being the 9th man and only playing like 9 or 10 minutes a game. If we're healthy I'm guessing the rotation looks something like this"

Conley/Don
Don/Clarkson
Royce/House
Bogey/Gay
Rudy/Whiteside/ (Gay may also get some minutes at center if we go to a smallball lineup against certain matchups)

I'm interested to see if Forrest and Paschall get any minutes in the rotation during the playoffs, my guess is probably not but maybe they will get a few short bursts. I think it's very unlikely NAW will get playoff minutes outside of garbage time.

I think it's almost certain that Udoka and Butler will be out of the regular rotation. Maybe Dok gets some minutes if one of our bigs are out for any reason, but that's probably it.

I think Forrest may get a few stints with limited minutes, primarily to defend opposing guards--CP, Ja, Steph, etc. I think he's mostly a defensive specialist. That said, he can also take some backup PG minutes and help keep Mike fresher late in games.

Paschall could take some of Royce's minutes if he's playing well. I'd expect him to be part of the regular rotation. Paschall has been hitting enough of his 3s, and he's a better drive-and-kick player than Royce is. He's also bigger/longer. Note that Royce is normally considered a 4, while Bogey is at the 3. The fact that the Jazz weren't able to bring in a bigger wing by the trade deadline probably increases Paschall's opportunities.

I think NAW is intended to be ahead of House in the rotation. House was brought in as a covid replacement. His minutes may be patchy if the team is healthy.

So I think it should look like this ---

1 Conley / Mitchell / Forrest / (Butler)
2 Mitchell / Clarkson / NAW / (House)
3 Bojan / Royce / NAW / (House)
4 Royce / Gay / Paschall / (Hernangomez)
5 Gobert / Whiteside / Gay / (Dok)

6th - Clarkson
7th - Gay
8th - Whiteside
9th - NAW
10th - Paschall

I hope forrest and paschall get minutes. I prefer paschall over rudy gay to back up bogey and prefer forrest over clarkson. Hopefully they rest conley quite a bit and play forrest all of conley absentee minutes.

Another way to look at is that after hayward left us high and dry we weren't expected to make the playoffs. Donovan was thought to be a decent defender rather than multiple time all star and nobody thought Gobert was going to be a multiple time all star. Looking at it that way, this team has been a monumental success. The franchise as a whole in the time it has existed in slc has been an overwhelming success and one of the best franchises in the entire league. We are lucky. Wouldn't know it by reading jazzfanz though. You would think we had similar success as the kings and twolves or something.

Meh

The Jazz has nothing to show for being one of the best franchises in the league.

But even ignoring the fact they have zero NBA titles, and likely won't ever win one here in Salt Lake, I'd still take this team getting to the Western Conference Finals - and they're not built for it. Haven't really been built for it since the height of the Stockton and Malone era.

One WCF appearance in 23 years and that appearance was wholly due to Dallas getting upset in the first-round by Golden State.

The fact is, Utah has the third-longest WCF drought of any team in the WC - behind New Orleans and Sacramento. Not exactly great company.

For such a successful team, and all those trips to the NBA playoffs, they have nothing to show for it.

Of course that is how you see things. You are you.
No one is forcing you to watch em. I love watching the jazz. I really like wins. Had a great time watching the jazz tonight. Wins matter to me. The jazz have more of them than almost all teams in the nba in their history. That counts to me.
 


How Forrest is becoming a major game changer for our title chance.
1, Forrest shows his explosiveness to blow by Curry then Poole and takes it all the way to the rim even after the defender was intentionally sagging off on him. Even Donovan can't do it consistently. He would've just settled for a pull up three in those instances

2, 2:40 was just a beautiful defensive sequence. The undrafted rookie on a two-way-contract was actually the one directing traffic telling Donovan, our best player on the team, to go pick up Curry then saw a cutting Wiggins and immediately went to meet him at the rim, preventing what would've been an easy bucket.

3, him running the pick n roll, making good read and passes. Good stuff. Imagine when Rudy, aka the best screen setter in the league, makes his return.

Really good point a rudy and his screen setting. That is really what sets him apart from whiteside on the offensive end. I could see forrest and rudy looking really good together with rudy amazing screen setting combined with forrest ability to attack.

House should be ahead of NAW, and frankly so should Butler. Why would NAW even be sniffing a rotation spot?
