What's new

What are your expectations of Favors this season?

He has a very good up and under move. He needs to develop and baby hook shot over one of his shoulders. He may have already. He has a great baseline spin move.

But where he is going to get his points is as the roll man in a pick and roll or in the open court. He is a great finisher at the rim with a dunk or either hand.

I have no idea what you're talking about, and I saw every minute he played in a Jazz uniform. He might have pulled off every big man move once or twice, but he doesn't have anything he can go to at this point. He's a raw, instinctive player. He can beat guys when the opportunity presents, but he can't beat guys at will like the guy he should become.

I hope he gets there next year. But he certainly wasn't there last year. He's an exciting prospect. But I'll be stunned if he makes an offensive leap this year.

That would be sweet, though. If Utah had a climate like Miami, maybe we could finally become a major player in attracting FAs.

He'd be a major asset too at that point, even beyond his size, youth and athleticism. You can't let that kind of power fall into the wrong hands (I'm looking at you, Soviet Russia...).

Can't create his own shot?

I can't remember the last athletic big man who had more of an offensive game than Favors did his rookie year.

Dwight Howard and Andrew Bynum are still trying to develop the range and post moves that Favors showed his rookie year. Seriously, just watch some of those moves he did in that video. Bynum has yet to do anything close to half those moves.

The face up game at 25 seconds

The jumper at 40 seconds (and the baseline drive he did on the play before was incredible).

The left handed shot at 46 seconds.

The face up jumper at 1:16

The drop step and pump fake with a flush at 1:30

The absorbing the contact with a soft floater at 1:47

At 1:50 he lays a nasty flush on McGee.

The drop step then little slide with a finger roll over Pau Gasol at 2:10

The fadeway at 2:17

The left handed hook at 2:32

And finally, one of the most amazing post moves I've seen by a jazz player... PERIOD. The back down spin baseline Shaq like throw down at 2:50.

I think anyone who says that Favors doesn't have a post game should be banned permanently for trolling.

I'm sorry he isn't kareem his rookie year.

But to say he can't create his own shot isn't ignorance, it's trolling. Stop trying to provoke a response.

My Expectations?

Greg Ostertag mixed with a little bit of Dwight Howard and Luc Longley
With the attitude of Betty White

I don't know what Billy is watching but Favors has a lot of offensive moves/talent. Favors was throw in the Jazz offense and did quite well considering he had no training camp and was a young player. I think the sky is the limit for Favors. He can become a great two way player if he has the desire to do so. As his confidence grows, people are going to be shocked how good this kid can be. What was Favors average last year at he end of the season? The determining factors regarding how high his stats will be playing time and if he can reduce his fouling. When he gets in foul trouble his scoring suffers. I would not be surprised if he post 15 pts 8 rebounds and 2.0 blocks if he gets more than 30 minutes a game. Another factor that might decrease his numbers is the number of teammates who can score, I think their will be multiple Jazz players who score in double digits thus reducing the potential of one player from scoring twenty plus points a night.

He was being guarded by Willie Green, an undersized SG. I think any self-respecting post player could have pulled that move off.

This is actually a better video to see some of Favors' still-raw repetoire:

0:30-mark you see a nice left-shoulder jumphook off a nice swing-through.
1:07-mark you see that baseline face-up jumper off a reverse pivot that the Jazz helped Malone, Boozer, and Jefferson all develop.
1:20-mark you see the counter, Splitter closes out so Favors puts the ball on the floor and drives by him. Eventually he'll need to go (and finish) left w/that move, but you like the offensive awareness there.

More than a mid-range j, really hope Favors can establish that left-shoulder jump hook as his go-to move on either block. After that, you can see even last year he was developing his footwork and showed the ability as the screener or dive man to catch and finish strong at the rim.
