Rumor: Gobert wants Jazz to decide between him or Mitchell

This is Rudy's way of staying with the team. He know Donovan won't demand out (he prefers passive aggressive) and they won't proactively trade him, but by coming out and saying "him or me" all of a sudden Donovan realizes if they choose him that adds a ton of pressure... cuz Rudy announced that the split had to happen. It starts the conversation and Donovan actually saying "you know what... if he feels that way I am thinking about getting out anyway so you should pick him and move me". Its a galaxy brain way he is proving his loyalty to us by trying to stay.

I think this could actually be true though.

It must be awful having a dude spring the entire offense because no one can get past their man, save their bad shots, and protect their asses on defense. What's worse, he doesn't even have his own shoe.

I suppose I'll be blasted if I admit I like both of them. Rudy plays about as well as he can most of the time so I'd like him to stay as he's rather unique. Donovan needs a coach that doesn't give "green lights" to everyone and holds people accountable. So I say keep them both and get a new coach.

This has basically been my position for years now. You can build a title winner with the two of them, but 0 defense and a stubborn permissive coach isn’t the way to do it.

I’d say look at the Philly, Phoenix, Milwaukee, etc model, with three all-star-ish to all nba level players. 3 top roughly 30 guys. Surround them with athletes that play defense.

Embiid, harden/Simmons, harris
Paul, Booker, Ayton
Giannis, Middleton, Holiday

You already have two guys. Do what it takes to get the third. Jerami Grant comes to mind.

I do believe we would not have the tension between Don and Rudy that we have now if we’d built a better roster around them.

We went too all in on offense, and the guys with value left other than Don and Rudy are too old to get dollar-for-dollar return if we tried to flip them for guys with different skill-sets. So we are left with four options:

(1) trade both and enter full rebuild; and
(2) trade one for a mixture of lesser win-now pieces and future assets;
(3) keep Don and Rudy, trade Bogey, Mike, Clarkson, etc. for different pieces and hope things fix themselves next year with a different group with Don and Rudy (I don’t think this works well at all because I don’t think these guys return like value);
(4) Run it back and embrace the treadmill (this would be AWFUL).

I will also add, I think you could build a champion around guys with the physical skills of Don and Rudy. I think BOTH of them might be too mentally soft, whiney, and passive aggressive to build a contender around.
