NBA Playoffs

I remember there being some speculation about Butler to Utah because of his BYU ties, but there's no way in hell he would ever pick Utah over Miami.
Also Spo and Pat are basically perfect to manage Jimmy... I think Udonis has him in check as well. I can't imagine what he'd do to us given our soft locker room and management.

I actually think he fixes the Jazz locker room before it gets bad in that situation. Recall that this team used to be tough and Butler would have had the stature to keep Donovan in check and maybe even get the most out of him. The biggest misstep of this build is Donovan gaining the stature he has that is far beyond his value on and off the court.

Butler is wild and he can obviously get a little nuts but it seems that the overwhelming majority of friction between him and teammates is people not working hard enough. That is what we’ve needed the past three years more than anything. You can’t have traction without friction.

I know this place loves playing “what if”, so what if the Jazz just go out and sign Butler and Caruso in 2019 instead?
For the record, Jae would've still been on the team.

Caruso/Donovan
Donovan/Grayson
Butler/Ingles
Crowder/Royce
Gobert/Udoh or Noah/Bradley

That is a fun team to watch and would be brutal to play against. You don't need incredible shooting when you're choking the life out of the opponent, but it is still two tiers of improvement over the inane Rubio/Favors build. Swap Crowder with Ingles and you have a lineup with 4 playmakers (that all likely can D up, even Mitchell in this context) + Rudy.

Anyway.

These playoffs have been fantastic. Best I can remember in a long time. 2 awesome game 7's tomorrow!

On another note, i saw a thread on a different site talking about bill simmons rankings of single best year of players since 2000 (I think) and where he would rank them. He had Lebron 2018 #1 Then he has Giannis this year at #2. Then Shaq in 00, duncan 00, kobe 06, 2017 durant, steph 2016, 2011 dirk, 07 nash, 09 wade, 02 kidd were the others.
I thought curry was too low. Thought his 16 season should have been #2. But then I looked at some stats. I never think of Giannis as a "scorer" I looked up a bunch of guys stats. (curry, lebron, kobe, shaq, duncan and giannis) and per 36 giannis is the best scorer of everyone. 34.9 ppg and 32.7 ppg per 36 were the highest. And I think he is the youngest guy on the list. Crazy. Against boston he is averaging almost 36 ppg and 14 rebounds. Wow.
Shockingly lebrons highest ppg per 36 was this year at 37 years old (29.3) That is insane.
Curry averaged over 30 ppg in only 34 minutes per game in 2016 which is crazy. Plus he pretty much single handedly turned the league upside down which is nuts.
Couple of guys he missed imo: KG and Kawhi. Kawhi is so hard to rank though. He is such an enigma. One of the weirdest and most unique players imo.

Fun discussion anyway

Giannis is like the new age Shaq. Once he gets it in the paint it’s either a dunk or a foul, every time.

I think Boston might take it. Bucks really miss Middleton’s playmaking ability. Especially since Holiday can’t throw a rock in the ocean right now.

I would take boston too. Giannis needs more help

Yep. Maybe that comes from Allen, Portis, or Matt? But he’s gotta get some help. Beating Boston… what… three times on their home floor without Middleton is a tough task.

What do you think about Dallas and Phx?

Man these playoffs have been great. Were we the least competitive series? It’s crazy how non-intense our series was when compared to almost everyone else. Then again, it probably shouldn’t be a surprise. We never played with any sense of urgency this entire year.

I think it was only players he has seen live… in the same year they were awesome. So he may not have seen the guys you mentioned in person during that playoff run.

I love this Milwaukee team. They will pull it out today. Game 7s are normally a rock fight and so I don’t expect Tatum to get 40 on step backs. Giannis is a murderer in a rock fight since he lives at the rim.

Unless something weird happens with foul trouble I expect the Bucks to win.

So is Chris Paul washed now that he might have 3 games in a row with under 10 points after going up 2-0? Just curious if that's how it works.
Jazz and Sun's have the same problem. Washed true point guards in a league where you don't need a point gaurd anyone. They are from a different area of basketball that feels like a long time ago.

Celtics's big wings attacking. Grayson Allen needs to knock down some of these looks. He's not exactly a substitute for Khris Middleton.
