Snyder to step down - Woj

Fizdale is a horrible coach. I would hate it if we chose him. He made a career out of being buddy-buddy with LeBron and Wade.
I'm not a huge fan... but we are headed for a **** storm so why not have a guy who will give good quotes/interviews? He clashed with Marc Gasol as well... not sure what his relationship with Mike is but everyone gets along with Mike.

Who we end up naming as coach will tell you who has the power... if its Bryant then CAA runs the Jazz... if its Coach Fizz then Wade has a lot of pull... anyone else and I think Ainge has the most pull with Ryan.

That's the thing... I think I agree with Catchall.... If this was Lindsey or Zanik, I can actually see them going with whoever has the strong arm in the ownership group/Mitchell... with Ainge it's a bit different. Ainge doesn't look to me like someone who will play those games and will cower to pressure. He traded freaking no. 1 pick in the draft when everybody thought there is 1 player above all... and he made the right decision and picked the right player at 3. He picked Jaylen Brown when everybody was down on Brown and thought he shouldn't go top 5. He's made so many STRONG opinion against the grain decisions as an NBA exec... IF he really is the guy with the keys now(and it seems like he is) I really don't think he will go with someone because Wade wants him or Mitchell/CAA wants him... maybe he goes with Bryant, but if he does IMO it will be because he truly believes he's the best choice.

Look this doesn't fit here at all... and I don't give a ****. Just happy Sheed is BACK! What is the record for technical fouls by an assistant. The over/under on memes generated this season with Sheed in LA is set at infinity... take the over.
What if the Lakers start next season terrible, they fire Darvin. We get a Woj bomb saying Danny Ainge has rejected the Lakers from hiring Quin Snyder. So they decide to hire Rasheed Wallace as the new head coach!

Andy mentioned Fizdale cuz he's close with Wade... interesting... it would be entertaining at least.

I don't understand why Wade has such a large voice in the organization....he only has like one percent ownership in the team. Fizdale would be just an awful hire.

Great now I'm not just excited... I'm down right horny.

Also traded a fan favorite in IT cuz he knew he was broken and he didn't want to pay him.

I agree but its not fully up to Ainge as @KqWIN has laid out. He's one voice... so he may find himself on an island and cave to the others opinions. I'm just not sure he's Celtics Ainge. They way the hire came down was weird and makes me think he isn't as committed to the gig as he was as a younger fella.

Ryan likes to be cool... they ain't much cooler than Wade. Wade was brought in not to be some silent investor but to have a voice... and to make Ryan feel cool (vey clearly a Don element there too).

I highly doubt they hire Fizz but it was a name I hadn't thought of.

Johnnie Bryant has little or no relationship with Danny Ainge. He was part of the prior regime. He also has very little actual coaching experience, though he's done 2 years as an associate under Thibodeau. When Ainge hired Brad Stevens, Stevens was at least regarded as one of the best young coaches coming up in the college ranks and was thought of as a potential NBA coach.

I'm really curious to see which direction this goes.

There's also another elephant in the living room here, which is the question of whether the Jazz are self-conscious enough to insist on hiring a black coach in order to look progressive or appeal to players. It seems as though the league and the media have made it a thing to keep count of how many coaches are black vs. white these days.

I really hope this isn't the way the Jazz approach this. They need to hire the best candidate regardless of race.

Jesus Christ.

That really was not an elephant in the room. The Jazz have already shown they are more than willing to hire black coaches at all positions. The Jazz will make the hire they feel is best.

The difference is that Ainge is working with an involved owner in Utah vs non-involved owners in Boston.

A lot of us are just assuming that Ainge is the one calling the shots, but the reality is that Ainge might just be a puppet being used to give Ryan Smith's decisions legitimacy.

Why would he do that? Why would he put his name on the line at the end of his career just to "give Ryan Smith's decisions legitimacy"...

He had a prodigious career for 50 years in basketball and in the end he just decided to be a facade for Ryan Smith's shadow GMing. This really makes no sense to me. He doesn't need any of this. IMO he has real power in the organization.

Because Ryan Smith is a billionaire Mormon. Money.

And of course Ainge has power, but at the end of the day he answers to Smith.

Who started the press conference - Smith or Ainge? I came in when Quin was just getting started and he mentioned that Ainge had spoken.

Things I found interesting:
Ainge saying that they had desperately wanted to have Quin back.
Ainge saying that he would like to get Quin's advice on his replacement.
Quin saying he had given no thought to his future plans - I call bullcrap. There is no way he hasn't thought about it.
Quin making the joke about Rudy having the biggest footprint. Good deflection from having to answer the question about his own footprint on the team completely.
Quin's comment about spending next Halloween with his daughter. Sounded like he isn't planning to coach this year because how would he know that?

That all works for me.

He cant coach this year unless Utah lets him.

I think Ainge is a competitive guy and a reasonably compulsive one at that. He's also far and away the most experienced person anywhere near the Jazz. I just don't know who in the organization he would think he needs to listen to. As long as he has ownership's support, I think he'll do his thing. The old regime is now packing up and leaving.

As much power and influence as Quin had, Ainge obviously didn't give Quin whatever it would take to make him want to stay here.

I wouldn't approach the coaching situation that way either. But I'm curious to see if this ultimately becomes a factor, or if the media makes a story around it.
