My memory is fuzzy and it may have been just a rumor but I remember reports about Brad not being happy with the moves that have been done and said **** it, I will do it myself.

Yeah but who made Stevens a Celtic in the first place? When Doc left the Celtics, fans thought the sky was falling. It takes guts to bring in a 36yr old college guy who's never coached in the NBA before

Ainge kinda answered it himself. The game changer was they got rid of a 6'0 midget PG and thus shifted everyone else to a more favorable matchup. Sound familiar to anyone?

Recently, former team president Danny Ainge revealed the key move made by his successor Brad Stevens that he believes paved the way for the Celtics’ return to the NBA Finals.

“I think that, by moving Kemba [Walker],” Ainge told NBA insider Steve Bulpett. “It allowed Marcus (Smart), Jaylen (Brown) and Jayson (Tatum) and Robert Williams to really thrive in positional size, with Horford taking up a big responsibility in the front line for Robert and moving Jaylen, Jayson and Marcus to their positions where they can have size advantages.

The list of coaches that have obtained the ability to make personnel decisions cannot be that long or extensive, but the coaches that have "earned" this right, at least the ones that I can think of, are pretty successful. If a team is willing to keep a coach for 8 years and a coach is willing to stick with a team for 8 years you'd think he deserves the right to make some personnel decisions at that point, wouldn't you?

He had numerous moves that were great and gutsy. He set a great foundation but it was getting White and getting rid of Schroeder that really unlocked that potential. I think he tunnel visioned to needing a PG.

yeah, hopefully he learnt this lesson. not just from the Celtics but from DL and the Jazz. spending tons of picks/players/money trying to get yourself a starting PG when the Celtics model showed that you probably don't need one in the first place. Pelicans got it working during second half of the season with CJ running the pseudo-point as well.

That’s a good point. Who knows where this team would be had we not shipped off prospects and firsts trying to find a pg. lol

Kinda dont need point guards or centers (traditional dinosaur types anyway). Positionless basketball seems like the way to go in todays nba. Positional versatility is another way to put it. Guys who can only really play one position (conley, gobert) seem to have less value these days.
