Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Okay, let me ask you -- why do you think the Jazz are actively trying to trade Donovan before he's had even one practice with the new coach? Isn't he supposed to be our star player? Isn't he supposed to be the guy that we're building around for the next 3 years?
It was telling he wasn’t invited to the new uniform reveal.

So one super weird thing about the Rudy trade… it seems none of the writers or Locke are talking about Beverly at all… is it like a foregone conclusion we are routing him elsewhere? If we are actually retooling he’s a piece you definitely hold on to. Am I wrong… feels like people talk about Vanderbilt and Beasley more and Bev isn’t even really mentioned which is weird.

Well, what Bogey did wasn't just for a quarter. He guarded Kawhi, he guarded Brunson and Doncic for the whole game.

What I remember from Don is people conflating his steals with the idea that he was improving defensively. There were some hopeful few who thought since he sucked defensively, gambling for deflections and steals would help the Jazz.
Hey… that hurts… I kid. To start the season he seemed more active with that… which is an improvement over completely unengaged.

I do like you and appreciate basically anyone who doesn’t feel the need to pick a side and just supports the Jazz in general. The guys who are the worst are the ones who have personal vendettas against players and who are cult-like in support of others who are on other teams.
I reciprocate the honor, Sir: I view you as a respected and productive contributor to JazzFanz.

Bogey was ****ing masterful in the Clippers series.

Well does he play off ball or come off the bench? The idea has been to move Donovan to full time PG all off-season.

I don't get it either. Perfect player for a young team. Doesn't require much PT and brings a Sam Cassell no BS approach. I even heard Locke talk about his being a buyout candidate. I think he is a positive asset, especially at the trade deadline.

Tony Jones wouldn't say **** if he had a mouth full of it.

Here is what I think is happening--there isn't a source who is coming out and saying this publicly, but this is just reading the tea leaves and follows what big reporters (Windhorst, MacMahon) are tip-toeing around. I think Mitchell asked for a trade before the draft. He named MIA and NYK as his preferred destinations. However, both the Jazz and CAA want to keep this quiet.

If people know that Mitchell requested a trade, the fans will be furious with him. Kids will be crying and people will burn their Mitchell jerseys. The fans made a big backlash against Hayward when he left in free agency. Mitchell wants out with 3 years left on his deal. It's just going to be ugly for Mitchell and CAA doesn't want that. The league doesn't want that. It's just a bad look all around.

If Ainge abruptly trades Mitchell, then people can say the Jazz are going in a different direction. Mitchell can say he has nothing but love and gratitude for Salt Lake and the Jazz. (Same as Dejounte Murray.) If people are angry they can blame Ainge for changing the direction without giving Mitchell a chance to run the team. Ainge will say, "It's sometimes hard to swallow, but this is what's best to try to bring a championship to Utah."

Jazz have been actively discussing Mitchell trades with MIA and NYK for the past 10 days. Then when KD asked out of BRK last week, the Jazz inserted themselves into those discussions as the team that could facilitate by providing a young All Star as compensation for KD going out. So between MIA, NYK and now BRK, Ainge is making a market for Mitchell.

If the Jazz don't get the offer they want, they can hold onto Mitchell into next season and put on a happy face for the fans. They'll say, "We are building this team around Mitchell." Then they can try again to move him at the trade deadline or next offseason.
