It's funny when some people tell others "you're not a Utah fan if you root for Rudy to succeed with Minnesota". Cause I am pretty sure they will root for us to lose as many games as possible at the same time. So one could say "true fan always roots for his team to win!" Also following the logic that we should wish for the worst for Timberwolves and Cavaliers it would mean that we should hope for the worst possible injuries to Rudy and Donovan.. That's not really what I would sign up for.
I will definitely follow both Cleveland and Minny when I have a chance, I can't really say that I will root for Minny, I would rather call it sympathising with Rudy's new team, hoping he will achieve more than has here. But if Minnesota fails I am not going to cry. I won't feel emotionally involved like with the Jazz.

+1. Fan can root for more than one team. I follow the Grizz and the Jazz and don't think i'm stupid. And as you say, if Rudy or Don achieve well with their team, i will be happy for them. And if Minny or Clev are not that good, i will not cry too.

With a season in which the likelihood of Jazz wins is low, it makes sense to have a secondary team. However, it won't be either of these two teams. This may sound blasphemous, but I actually like the Nuggets' roster. Granted, I live in Colorado. The Grizz have a nice squad, as well. Ideally, your secondary team should be in the East. I kind of like the Hawks, I guess.

I won't root for either team but I hope Minn takes a nose dive to the bottom of the NBA. Nothing at all against Rudy, he was always one of my favorites. The jazz need that pick to be as close to #1 as possible.

I'll cheer against the Don and the cavs. I'll cheer for Rudy but hope they lose every game.

No true jazz fan will root for either team. We are in it to win it. Good luck Rudy and Donovan. Hope your teams blow it.
I like the cut of your jib.

Depressing that Jazz seasons are gonna be back to being boring to watch for likely the next 3-5 years. That’s a long *** time.
All it takes is one good draft to change the entire dynamic. Remember when Hayward left everyone thought we were going into rebuild mode. Donovan changed that halfway into the next season.

I’m going to root for the young guys on the roster to play well and still lose a ton - especially with what looks to be a really weak bench this year.

Beyond that, I’m going to be rooting for San Antonio, Houston, Detroit, Orlando, OKC, Sacramento and Indianapolis to all win more games than the Jazz, while simultaneously rooting against the Wolves, Cavs, 76ers, Nets, Lakers and anyone else we might get a 2023 pick from. I’m going to have a great time.

I have had similar conversations with my kids since they’ve become more interested in sports. I tell them I have “sports hate”. I have my favorite teams in the NBA, MLB, NFL and college football. When it comes to those teams and the players currently on those teams they are my favorites and I do not cheer or root for others teams unless there is a specific reason, such as playoff positioning or in our case now getting better draft picks, that benefits my favorite team.

I hope our current players develop and become fun to watch in case they help with the rebuild or get trade interest from other teams but I want us to get the best pick and/or to be in the best position possible to improve through trades and the draft, which means I have to view losses this season as not bad.

I’ll root for the best draft picks for us in whatever years we hold a teams pick. I root for them to be terrible. If we are tanking ourselves and don’t hold their pick, then I don’t mind rooting for a Rudy, Ingles, DM team and hope they win something. It’s a tight window though.

I’d say none if the Jazz had any possibility of being decent, but since we’re purposely going to be losing. I’ll take the Wolves.

Well the fact is the Wolves will be good, like very good, for the next 2-4 years. So I can root for Rudy to win one in that time frame. I really would love to see them click and get there next year or the year after, so they can get it done, then watch the team implode and give us better options down the road. But the next 2-4 years any picks from the Wolves will likely be used just to try to move up when we end up 9th in the draft.

I wish Mitchell good health and hope he is successful. I will not root for his team. I would love to see the Cavs collapse completely and completely explode within the next 2 years.
