Derrick Favors ceiling.

I dont think we can predict where his ceiling will be yet. This kid is only 20 so if he can stay healthy and hungry sky is the limit. He is going to be a superstar. If we can draft or pick up one more superstar the Jazz have a very bright future.
 
Jarron Collins on defense and Francisco Elson on offense. Derrick will take a few charges in the lane and shoot when absolutely necessary - i.e. when CJ, Raja and Harris aren't chucking them up.


Seriously, I think Favors will average a double-double this year; let's put him down for 15/10 with 2 blocks. Next season I could see him become a 20/12 player. It's really to early to say. What we do know is guys who come into the league and WORK usually succeed (e.g. Matthews and Millsap), while others can have great tools and/or size but jackpot around and are big disappointments (e.g. Ostertag). I just hope Favors' development mirrors that of Millsap - i.e. every year he's able to add 1-2 new things to his arsenal to go along with the high effort and rebounding.

Probably a better comparison than Stoudamire, who plays no D. In his short prime Mcdyess was a terror on both ends of the court. He then suffered a patellar tendon tear, which is worse for athletes than an ACL. Re-injured it again quickly after returning and was pretty much a role player from there on out. For those to young to remember a prime Mcdyess....

Wow! It's so hard to remember Mcdyess being that crazy athletic. But the again, I'm only 26 and saw mostly the good mid-range shooting role player Mcdyess.
Let's hope Favors can throw down some dunks and insane blocks like that soon :-)

I think he will average the first quintuple double for a season in the history of the NBA.
 
Immediately after the trade I used the "Jermaine O'Neal in his prime" comparison/ceilling which I think is still a pretty valid comparison - although after seeing him play in March/April and then last night - it's obvious Favors is more coordinated and skilled offensively than O'Neal was as a 19-20 year-old - which imo should result in becoming a more efficient offensive player than JO (who often used bad footwork, took contested shots and shot a lower % than he should have). I love that left-shoulder jump hook that looks like is becoming his go-to move from either block. Forget the mid-range jumpers for now, if Favors can deliver that jumphook consistently he'll be everything we hope and more.

IMO McDyess was more of a finesse 4 who really excelled not only on the break but facing up to the basket and either shooting the mid-range jumper or putting it on the floor and blowing by you. I think Favors has incredible athleticism for a man his size, but I don't think he's as quick or explosive as Antonio pre-injury.

The thing I really love about Favors is his potential as a defensive player - not only defending the lowpost and as a weakside shotblocker, but with his combination of size and mobility to hedge and stepout when defending screen-roll.

(Maybe the jazz might want to get something out of them.)

I think Favors has a very high ceiling, but I do think he needs to develop some reliable moves to reach that.
