What's new

Woj: Don to the Cavs for Markkanen, Agbaji, Sexton, three unprotected 1sts, two swaps, and a partridge in a pear tree.

It's hard to believe Sexton is still only 23. The wins and losses won't matter so much this season. I'd throw him out there and see what he can do as a playmaker before boxing him in as purely a Jalen Brunson type that relies on a big playmaker and/or as a Clarkson archetype microwave scorer.

I'd throw THT out there and see if he has any playmaking chops too.
Don't forget Bolmaro.

I don’t know, he’s got all the qualifications save for the offensive component, and he’s 6’6” and can survey the floor, and he doesn’t get the yips at the charity stripe like that other oversized point guard in Brooklyn…. And we just hired the shot doctor.

Horn is not coaching the team. He is coaching the coach.

He just made the worst decisions with the ball consistently. His passes were way off. He got in the air and didn't know what to do. Turnover prone. Didn't finish that well at the rim. He didn't do much in minny.

I just don't see it guys

Somebody saw something, he the averaged the second highest number of minutes in Vegas Summer League to Butler, 26.4 to 27.1 if memory serves (too busy to google it right now).

Maybe, but far from foregone conclusion. They would need a facilitator at the 3 or 4 for this to have a remote chance of working
I agree with that if Sexton does not show the ability to facilitate from the pg spot. At that point he is a 6th man on this roster same as Cleveland probably. I am guessing he show an improved floor general skillset. I think from what he has been talking about, regarding extensive film study, that only a player who was hurt could really add, Then given on the fact that he seemingly has improved as a playmaker every year, but doesn't get the credit for it, because he was playing the 2 guard next to Garland. I think he can open some minds there since Garland was clearly the better facilitator of the two of them right off the bat but also nowhere near the scorer in his first two seasons that Sexton was in year 2 and 3.
But yes, gotta have multiple playmakers in the front court on any contender. If Agbaji puts work in, and becomes a playmaker off the dribble, instead of just making the right passes like h did in college, those two together should be solid.

A couple Lauri Markkanen interviews today regarding the trade.

EDIT: Seems to be same interview actually, written a bit differently in these two articles :D
