Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

This all still just makes me wonder: how the hell did we get a 1st rounder for Royce O'Neale?
I laughed when the FO was putting out that they were seeking first rounders for NAW and Royce. Joke was on me. But I'll also use this as a venting point that we could have probably shuffled some things with the roster and used that pick and still given another run under a different coach.

Because he's a really good player for a contender who needs shooting/defense without any added usage.

Also up until last season he played really well in the playoffs ever year. He's a career 40% 3pt shooter in the playoffs over 40 games, and that's with him being pretty bad last season only shooting 28%.
Not to mention just about every team in the league is looking to add 3&D players to their roster. Those types of guys are hard to find.

I think you may be right. I think crowder wants out based on the smoke coming from Phoenix. My reasons for hope was John Gambadoro in Phoenix mentioned one first may not be enough for Bogey… so maybe expiring plus a first is good enough… depends on how they value shamet and Dario. My guess is they’d prefer to send Shamet. I’m fine taking Shamet and maybe we can add Gay and Craig to the deal. I don’t care much about grabbing some extra seconds but I’d do Bogey for Crowder Shamet and a 24 first… plus some seconds in like 27/28/29. Crowder would get rerouted for seconds or maybe a first if we took on ****** salary or added some other players… I think we need to prune the roster a bit this week. Can wait to move JC and Mike.

If phoenix will do two frps for JC and Bogey I’d do that all day but I doubt they’d go that far.

It's hard to know how the Suns value Dario and Crowder (something weird is going on there), but it does feel like these two teams should land on a deal one way or another. The Suns openly do not value draft picks, they're a good trade partner for us.

I think we try to get the Lakers final offer then execute something with the Suns. The other potential holdup here would be finding the best place for Jae.

I don't love Shamet for us because we have infinity small guards... but i don't think he's a horrible reclamation project either.

Landry, Gay and Udoka for Duncan Robinson and pick.

Shamet's contract is also really rough. I feel like taking him on is worth a first. I'm not too worried about the log jam at "tiny guard" because in theory a lot of these guys can/will be moved.....but yeah I'm not really down with half the roster being undersized combo guards.

Does anyone know details of Shamet’s contract? @Elizah Huge mentioned his last two years aren’t guaranteed, but is there any guaranteed money? In other words, what would buying him out in two years look like? Cuz if it’s not much then that’s a totally palatable deal for our purposes.

According to spotrac, it looks like the last two years are completely non-guaranteed.

https://www.spotrac.com/nba/phoenix-suns/landry-shamet-26992/#:~:text=Landry Shamet signed a 4,dead cap value of $9,500,000.

I also found this from Keith Smith.

Essentially Shamet could be considered an expiring contract next year. His contract isn’t bad at all.

It’s not two bad with the no guarantee years. He’s prolly a 5M+ player making 10M. If he has some weird leap or fits better here or shows some improvement then those other years give some upside maybe. I’d say there is like a 95% chance those years don’t get picked up.

There have not been a lot of salary dump deals that have yielded firsts these days… with the cap rising I’m not sure you get a first for taking on 2/20M of Landry shamet… it’s def negative.

Add to that - his salary for someone who can play starter minutes plus the fit he is with what NJ needs. Not a stretch at all for Royce to net a 1st rounder given the context.

Look if Kyrie keeps tweeting there is a chance Lebron and the Lakers are like "ya know cap space ain't looking all that great... maybe we just do the Jazz deal and try to be good now".
