Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Nah... I think Danny got greedy and just wanted em both. It was an error. We should have don Mike/Bogey for Russ straight up rather than the deal we got. This team minus Mike and KO would have a shot at bottom 4. Mike/Bogey/Vando for Russ and one pick is a little rich but we should have done it. There are also other minor assets we could have used.

We had a golden opportunity to solve a lot of our problems... I get that the Lakers would have been a huge beneficiary... but you just have to get over it and do what is best for your club long-term.
You can think that all you want, but there is no reporting or evidence that this is the case. All evidence points to the fact that the Lakers want to keep the picks and clear out salary for a top level free agent next year.

Except that they got inches away from doing the Turner Heild trade. You place 100% confidence in some of the reports you hear and then poke holes in other reports because it doesn't jive with your opinion.

Keeping the cap clear is super dumb and I have a very hard time thinking that is the plan. They are short of max space by like 10M+... they gonna wait a year to sign Wiggins to a sub max deal? Then what good are the picks as you have no salary to attach to them? Their plan is to find a killer deal. If we simply said Bogey, Mike, and filler for Russ they'd have done it. Why were they having discussions about Bogey, Mike, 1 pick for Russ and 2 picks? You think that was our initial offer and it was just dismissed? There was some back and forth and they will do the right deal.

How do you know they were "inches from a deal." Clearly they were not or the deal would have happened. They were never going ro carry 18 million on Hield next year. The Jazz knew this which is why they blew up the THT for Turner deal. The Jazz made it so they were the only team that could give good players rhat were also expirings for the pick.

You could get mad that the Jazz got "took" in that they thought the picks were on the table enough to make the THT deal, but those picks were never going to happen.

I think that the Lakers think they will get Irving on a discount. At this point in his career I think that James would rather lose with his buddies than work with some "random Euro" as a third option. I think they also feel like they can use the picks to get a 4th star, but I don't understand where the salary matching comes from. Probably use the two picks on someone on a rookie deal.

I know cuz it was reported… they had internal meeting and it wasn’t unanimous so they decided to pass… for now. It was close to happening.

Please show me the last good player on a rookie deal that was traded for picks. Those trades don’t happen.

Their plan is to be opportunistic with those picks and that space. We could have provided something that works one way or another. They don’t want some “random Euro” we got Beasley… Mike… Vando… JC. Taking on salary isn’t as big an issue as you are making it… they likely can do more in FA with expiring deals than their cap space… no top tier FA is signing with them for 10M below the max.

I think you are mostly right, but if I’m them then I’m putting a huge premium on the optionality of Beasley’s deal and still balking at paying $24 million for Conley or paying him $14 million to go away.

If they take Mike out and sub Beasley in, the Lakers keep their options open while fielding a good team. That should mean more to them than closing a door to crack open another.

If Danny just dumped out Mike/Bogey/and a late 1st for their bag then I am ****ing out on him. He’s the construction worker harassing every attractive woman that walks by, and when it works once in 50 times, he thinks he’s a genius. That was the Rudy deal.

Everything else has been meh, absolute ****ing ***, or hasn’t happened cuz he’s a miser. So obsessed with squeezing every deal that he’s lost sight of the big picture: get what you can, and be ****ing garbage to have a chance at a truly generational talent.

Having both Mike and Malik might aid their pursuit of Kyrie or another FA via sign and trade. I think there were many possible ways to get a deal through.... Malik very well may have been a great route.

Either way getting a future asset while sending out 3 or so useful players while returning 0 useful players... is a big benefit to our future. Still time... but as it stands we swapped one useful player for another useful player at a greater position of need... got 0 future assets for our trouble. If we repackage KO or get a bigger return for Mike, JC, KO, Vando... then Ainge was right to wait. If not then he overplayed his hand and lost sight of the long term goal.

I just think pre-THT trade you go to them and say "look we got a lot of stuff. Give me an idea of a package you'd do for both picks and give me an idea of a deal you'd do for 1 pick and lets see if there is a workable framework."

They only have 30M in space cuz we kindly took the THT deal (if they had a different deal lined up then let them do it). If they came up with no deals for 2 picks and Beasley, Vando, Bogey, Pat Bev for Russ and THT for 1 pick (maybe its even top 3-4 protected)... its still better than what we accepted thus far. I'd mock it a bit for sure... but I'd get it... it fits in what should be our ideology for the next couple years.

I think the Lakers are probably holding out that
someone like the Blazers start off terribly and agree to trade them Lillard for the picks.

This is correct. The Lakers were offering one pick with heavy protections for three players. It's clear why Ainge said no.
