What's new

Game Thread Nov 02, 2022 06:30PM MT: Jazz at Mavericks

Meh.

The Mavs were 8/15 on FT's, the Jazz were 12/14. This isn't on the refs.

Dallas's defense is fierce, especially when Luka is on the bench. The Jazz and Suns in last year's playoffs struggled to crack it.

Hell of an entertaining game.

Jazz really need at least one big athletic 6'-8" player to matchup with the bigger wings in the league. Gay and Fontecchio are the only 6'-8" guys on our roster.
I feel like we need 2 to 3 guys in that size range that are more perimeter players than Vanderbilt. The good news is this draft is loaded with those guys.

We have THT but it doesnt matter with the scheme we are playing.

If you are playing a switching defense and you have 6'1 guards out there, the 6'1 guard is always going to be the one defending. Utah was able to do some nice doubling with off-ball activity to force some turnovers and missed shots early, but it was only effective in spurts.

Kind of weird to comment on a game you aren’t watching, eh?

Please stop hyping up THT like he’s some amazing player. It was funny at first but now it’s just cringe.

We inexplicably overplayed Sexton instead of giving long/athletic defenders like Ochai/NAW/THT more minutes. Jazz payed for it heavily on the boards and 2nd unit defense.

Credit for Sexton keeping the game close with his ability to get buckets when the Mavs were willing to concede 2's.
THT and his zero rebounds and stocks would have been super helpful…

They were mostly all deserved and good calls other than the one he got on Markkanen when Lauri went straight up/down.

Luka is just an impossible guard if you aren't a strong wing w/ elite length. That's why he kept ducking THT when THT matched up on him.
I can’t refute your defender size point! I was actually hoping we could see more THT on Luka throughout the game. Luka did get a few inexplicable calls though. Like backing down Clarkson into his body Clarkson’s hands out and foul called on Clarkson!

I wonder what it would take to pry Keldon Johnson away from the Spurs. There has to be a number, right?

The future looks really bright. If hardy can keep everyone bought in through the midseason drag it's going to be highly entertaining.

He puts a body on people and has been a good rebounder in past games.

It was a rough offensive matchup for him with how much zone was being played. I'm sure part of the reason that Sexton overplayed was because Hardy wanted someone who could break down the zone.

I would have to see the replay of what you are talking about specifically, but Luka's hand quickness and strength make it really easy for him to catch defenders in bad positions to draw fouls. He's like the post up version of James Harden.
