Who have you been most wrong about?

Clarkson followed by Olynyk. If Clarkson shoots it like this or even close to this for the season it will sure let me forget that the jazz had Desmond Bane fall in their lap and decided to draft a 3rd string center. The passing ability has been as impressive as the shooting. I just didnt expect him to take on the bigger role and run with it. Olynyk I knew the advanced stats loved him but he kind of got forgotten playing on Detroit. It is cool to have a connection to Gonzaga/Stockton on this team.
 
Lauri. I knew he was a good player and a nice addition to the trade, but this is absurd... I don't think I've ever had my expectations surpassed as a jazz fan like this. Ever. I can't remember a single player who comes close to it.

Ingles? Bryon Russell? Memo? None seem close.

Really?! Malone, Stockton, Gobert, and Donovan are easily much higher from where they were drafted and expectations before playing. I have been pretty high on Lauri for awhile since drafted high though and his pretty consistent international play.

Yeah... you're right.

I'm not really sure what my thought process was in that one. I think I meant players you've seen, you had a low bar for who blew it out of the park. I feel like any draft pick didn't really qualify for that because i always have massive hopes for them - but yeah I don't know what I was saying. It made sense in my mind

Literally no one knew what to expect from this team, but as we play, other team's scouting gets better, and they can better prepare for what we are doing, and we will see the effects in more losses. But damn if it isn't the most fun I have had in watching the Jazz in decades. As long as they keep their attitude and keep playing their unselfish ball they will still win a lot of games this year. My bet at this rate is we end up somewhere between 4th and 8th in the West. Maybe a play-in team, but I think we get more in the 4-6 range, once all is said and done.

Then again, since we really don't know what this team can do, there is the chance they figure out how to adapt when other teams know more to game-plan against them, and they win even more than expected. At this point, finishing anywhere from 2-12 would not surprise me. Crazy season for sure.

Right now their biggest strength is that you cannot just stop any one guy. If you key in on Clarkson, then you give Markkanen an opening and that is bad. Or if you key in on Lauri, the guard core goes nuts. Or key in on stopping Sexton/Conley/Clarkson and we bring in bigger guys like THT and even Gay to shore up the offense and provide a defensive spark, and don't forget sleepers like Beasley and Vando, who could both go off if given the opening. So many weapons, and so many decent to great playmakers, and no egos. No one cares who the hero is, they just want to win. Tough to stop this team without a strong concerted very high-level team defense. Like Milwaukee right now. But there are maybe 3-4 teams in the league with an overall defense that strong. And even then we will have bursts that could bury them. Will be really interesting to see us going up against a few of the real power-houses of the league, like the suns and bucks. Then we will see what this team is made of.

One thing that makes me feel a lot better is that Atlanta obviously watched film on the Dallas loss because they threw a zone at us just like the one that flustered us in Dallas. We busted it wide open with spacing and the drive and kick pretty easily. Hardy obviously had them prepared for it. That bodes well for playoff adjustments as well.

I don't know if I'm ready to watch a coach make adjustments in the playoffs

I do like the adjustments from the coach and the flexibility to ride the hot hand. I don't think the zone had anything to do with scouting us though. Atlanta often runs that. The Atlanta announcers said something about here comes the usual zone he runs at this time or situation. It does bode well they seem prepared for some basic things like seeing a zone that often flustered Snyder's teams.
 
I thought Lauri would be traded immediatly on November 8th when he became tradeable. I was so certain Lauri is way too good for a tanking team, and Jazz would let him sit for most of the time to not ruin the tank.

Turns out the whole team is too good for tanking. They are definitively *not* a bunch of misfit outcasts as I thought, and it has been quite humbling to realise just how wrong I was about the team.

They didn't know how to play the zone at all. They fouled so much at the start because they didn't know how to move in the zone scheme. Dallas played the zone much better.

Edit:
But I agree that we were much better prepared for it. It's obvious it was practiced after that Dallas game, so that if we see it again we know how to adjust.
 
Coach Hardy is for me the biggest surprise. Never see such a young guys so smart. The way he change line-up at money time, adjust things is incredible. Was not expected he was that good.

Overall , all the team is surprising. Special to JC. Never tought he could play so smart.
