We Got Swindled by Sexton (And Eddie Zero Sucks)

Tim MacMahon on ESPN700 today said the organization didn't acquire Sexton with the intention of him being their future starting point guard, they don't view him as a starting point guard. They look at him more as a Lou Williams or Jamal Crawford type, a scoring 6th man.

That's exactly what I've been saying. But then Beasley went ballistic (most threes by a reserve this season), and I started to walk it back a little.

Hope Sexton knows that

Obviously Sexton would prefer the role of a scorer. That's his game. However, I suspect that starting is even more important for him in the long run. So he'll probably do what it takes to convince the coaches that he can run the team.

I don't think he'll pull it off.
He would ? I don't think Sexton cares what his role is, he just wants to win. He got paid so it aint like he is pressing anymore. He looks pretty unremarkable so far. But, why should he care? Got nothing to prove to anyone at this point. If they want him to play in the starting 5, they will get a better 2 way pg to pair him with, or they will continue to let him develop the playmaking part of his game that is unnatural to everyone until it isn't anymore.

If he wants to eventually start he needs to work on his game managing and obviously that needs alot of work. Hopefully he can soak up something from Conley over the next few months.
At this point he isn't a regular starter unless you have a healthy Lonzo Ball type to play next to him and that player doesn't even exist anymore.. Ironic that Zo can't get back on the floor after suffering the same type injury that Sexton had. Look at the Bulls and how Lavine's efficiency has taken a nosedive after losing Ball as his playmaker.

Sexton is fine as the Lou Williams/JC/Bones Heyland/Jordon Poole (insert your favorite microwave scorer) for this Jazz team. Just because they threw him out as a starter on those horrible tanking post Lebron Cav squads doesn't make him a starter on a legit playoff team. He's paid like half of what Jordan Poole just got but Warriors obviously overpaid a few of their guys coming off a championship.

From my limited perspective Sexton seems most interested in winning and is the biggest cheerleader on the bench in most of these games even when he's not closing out games.
He gets a ton of flack on this forum but if Ainge acquired him to be a Lou Williams/Jamal Crawford microwave scoring type than he's actually doing his job this season despite coming off knee surgery.

I don't understand why Danny didn't try to acquire a back up PG/game manager considering Conley's age and injury history unless he didn't think this team would be good enough to be concerned about such an issue.

Great game from Colin tonight. But against a bad team and with not much defense. Let's see if he can confirm against better team than Detroit. But tonight he did show his real potential.

Baby steps..

I still think it's going to be one step back and two forward for him all season.

Hopefully he can build off this.
I would definitely expect that to be the case. Hopefully Conley will miss enough time to allow him to go through some growing pains as the starter.

Yeah I'm not going to lie that game shocked the **** out of me. I was about to label him as just a pure microwave scorer. Apparently whatever Hardy said on the bench during that Clipper game got through to him.

Part of me wants Conley back as he would've made a difference when Beasley, Simone and JC were getting wreckless at the end of the game. The other half is fine letting the kids play even if it costs us a few games especially with the depth of this next draft.

I only have the energy to say one thing about this game...

If you're relying on and featuring Collin Sexton this much, you're not gonna win many basketball games. It's been tried before.

That's it. Bye.
