Reminds me of the crap load of emails I get from marketing companies… they want me to turnover my marketing to them when their solution is to spam peoples emails to market their biz.

Kessler is more like Marc Gasol than I thought. He needs to shoot the 3 and work on his passing, but his defense is already about there.

lol. cy has a point. good grief. let's seem him make a shot from beyond 5 feet before we start comparing him to dudes who did that all the time. and as you acknowledged he not even in the same stratosphere as a passer. iow, he's not really like gasol at all unless all good defensive centers are more like gasol than we thought.

Going up against one of the more intimidating guys in the pain with Zion, yet he just stands his ground and makes them fight for every inch. Damn, love this guy. He is making me re-think my position on Rudy, and I ****ing love Rudy.

Nah, I would still take Rudy back, you know to help the Wolves out and give them salary relief. Of course we keep all the assets. Duh.

But there is so much power in having 3 legit 7-footers who can legitimately play at the same time. That is just causing all kinds of havoc out there. Get past KO? Eh we expected that, how do you like Lauri waiting in the wings? Got past Lauri too? Oh good for you, here have a Kessler. GAME OVER!

True dat! I mean as obviously dynamic a player as Kessler is, at least you, for one also gave KO some credit as well. Both were huge last night in delivering that win for us, but sometimes I feel like only Thurl, Boler, a handful of fans and myself appreciate what Olynyk brings.

I mean there’s the three point shooting at 44%, the ft % at 84% (seems higher in clutch time), boards 5.1, ast 3.3, stls 1.1 and blks.6 all in under 29 mpg. With 51 ticks in regulation (118-118), after a Clarkson miss, Olynyk was credited with an offensive rebound (should’ve been a steal IMO) that became a Laurie 3. They secure the ball there and score, we’re the ones scurrying in catch up mode. Then of course the clutch fts in OT.

Anyway, yeah I know that this is the Kessler thread. Absolutely love the kid, second coming of Gobert in my book (still maintain that he can be that good). And as you said far more succinctly, those two are a great tandem that compliment each other on and off the court with their playing styles.

I played with a guy in high school who played just like Olynyk. There is a special talent to be in the right place and fall at the right time when you’re hit. Would make opposing teams so ****ing mad but you love having them on your team.

No way would i take rudy back. Maybe if rudy was 24 years old and only getting paid what kessler is getting paid or something. Even then, teammates dont really seem to like rudy very mjch for some reason. I would probably still choose kessler. With rudy being 30 and making the money he makes there is no way i would take rudy over kessler. No chance.

The 5.1 rebounds is not a complimentary stat for kessler.
The blocks isnt either,
The other stats are pretty good though.

Those are Kelly's stats, and he needs to rebound better. Kelly is ok, but he bugs me a lot too. My biggest issue is he is overfloppy to the point where refs don't give him calls he should get on both sides of the ball.

He needs to learn when to hold 'em and when to fold 'em.

Also, there is a good Kessler thread on the general board on RealGM.

Kessler is top among rookies in both BPM and VORP. And by a lot, too. I think he may be the only rookie playing any significant minutes with a positive BPM, and not just positive, but +2.5. As illustration, Banchero is at -0.2.

Now yes, BPM skewes in favour of centers who don't take outside shots. And yes, Banchero is being asked to do more. It's still impressive, though. Kessler is playing quality minutes and being a big positive and both ends of the floor for a good team. That's not that common for a rookie these days. I am sure my fellow Jazz fans will recall that most big men we've drafter over the last 10 years have looked lost out there their first year. The NBA game just moves so quickly on both ends of the floor. Kessler isn't getting garbage minutes, he's closing tight games. He's also being asked to play against and even guard star players. He's also currently averaging a double-double in December, and in just over 20 minutes a game.

All his advanced numbers indicate a player who is already good. There aren't a lot of 21 year-olds in the league you can just throw on the floor and and have them help you win. We may have a gem here.

Also, he can clearly handle being double-teamed.

I like how he raises his arms above his head and waves them around like a monkey with 3 fingers on each hand out when a teammate makes a three and he is on the bench. Makes me smile everytime.
