Game Thread Dec 19, 2022 05:00PM MT: Jazz at Cavaliers

Added to Calendar: 12-19-22

By thw ( and i'm not Don fan at all). Cavs use Don in a much better way we use him before. Garland conduct the game where he is much better than Don and Don can be focus on offense and put some effort on defense part as well. It works quite well.
I don't know. Jazz had Conley in that PG role although it seemed the ball was more in Donovan's hands.
I think part of it is Don is trying to prove a point in Cleveland and actually trying on defense which he didn't do here the last few seasons.

The Jazz did that.

Granted Garland is a better backcourt mate than Don ever had in Utah. So maybe that is relevant. But I think overall Don just had a natural year to year progression combined with added motivation. Dont think Cleveland is doing anything special to unlock more of Donovan that Utah didnt do.

The shooting percentage by the Cavs was out of this world and we got outrebounded a ton. These last two games were royal buttkickings.
Actually, we won over 75% of our defensive boards (20 DREB to their 4 OREB) and over 25% of the boards in their end (15 OREB to 40 DREB). Its just a weird game where there was 55 rebounds in the Cavs end due to our poor shooting and only 24 in our end due to their good shooting. Against the Bucks we just lost on the effort and energy. This time we got blown out in the efficiency department.

Did anyone else get the sense watching this game that JC was trying to imitate the worst version of Don? Took a lot of shots with a hand in his face and dribbled to the trees with some awkward finishing attempts... And a lot of it was early shot clock as well.

I just felt like he absolutely did not look to pass the ball at all. Like 0 passing from him to anyone... not even to his man Beasley. And I dont mean assists.. I mean just standard passes. Every time he got the ball in his hands, he put it on the ground without looking around and started his poor mans Don imitation.

Interested in seeing the tracking stats for this game. Last game he already hit a new low with 19 passes made for the whole game (JC beat Rudy Gay by 3 more passes made in that Bucks game)... but my eyeball test tells me this game was far worse.

I'm a JC Homer but why Hardy is still feeding him the ball when obviously he was struggling is beyond my understanding. He had 23 pts 8/21 fg and lauri had 24 on 7/12. Lauri also only scored 2 pts in the 2nd half. Crazy game plan here.

I cam only agree. I love JC but sometime he turn back to his old bad habit. He got to shoot when he is hot and able to do something else when he don't. It's not always the case. Mike was great at passing tonight, hopefully he find his shoot again soon, as we need it badly.

For sure. He should not start in any team that wants be good consistently if he is doing this kinda sheet. I don't know how much value has lost but the sooner the trade takes him out the better return. Then of course if he gets relegated to 6th man after we gt better additions to the team... Then I guess it can work. Seems he is not held accountable so better just trade him when the value has not sunk too much.

The tracking stats are in and I do no know when he supposedly passed the ball 20 times but that is still -17 on passes made vs received (no one else was even negative) and only 1 point scored in that game was credited to his passing.

I thought JC was fine last night. We tried running our sets and were getting nothing out of them. The Cleveland defense was smothering our shooters. The paint was packed because of playing multiple bad shooters at the same time. Nobody else on the team was going to take a contested look and so JC at least got some shots off.

Lauri could have used some more shots in the second half, but I think that's equally on Lauri as it is the team. It feels like some posters want to push Lauri in to something he may not be ready for. He's already creating way more offense for himself than he's ever done in his career. He doesn't need to be Kevin Durant right now. It does feel like he has another level he can raise his game, which is exciting, but we should allow him to get there in steps.

In the end our offense was better in the second half when JC took over than in the first half when Lauri was leading the offense. We lost the game in the first half, so I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about.

I didn't see all of the game but in the bit I saw Kessler was wide open on the pick and roll a few times and was ignored, only to miss a tough shot. They don't trust Kessler.

Hardy needs to play Agbaji more and Beasley less tonight. I take bets on a humble and hungry player being good, over slumping tired one. for at least one game experiment anyway

All I know is defensively a lot of the teams issues are centered on JC and MC. RG is pretty bad too. If I’m the Jazz I’m looking for 1-2 firsts for JC. We will be slightly worse without him but our ceiling with his style is firmly stucky imo. He would be excellent in his role on a defensive bona fide team such as Dallas. Stuck with MC unless Lakers do something which isn’t terrible as he will contribute to teach good spacing and passing. He’s just too old and small to keep up with increased PG size over the past few years

Yes, play the guy who hasnt even been able to prove he belongs in the G-League over the elite shooter who was having an off night. Brilliant.

exactly brilliant. you put the rook in the fire and see if he is worth keeping. Your take aboput hasn't proven anything is pretty stupid since he has not gotten g league run in any fashion to speak of, and is available every game for the Jazz but Hardy keeps shining the bench with Ochai's ***. its pathetic he never plays , and he should at least get a shot since Beasley is clearly in a slump.

Playing Rudy is part of the famous win/win strategy, where sometimes he gives you a boost and you win and others he drags you down and you lose. Either way, win/win for us. He should play 30+ minutes per night.
