2023 NBA Draft Megathread

GG Jackson was the #1 player (over DJ Wagner) in the 2024 class before reclassifying. Interesting to think about if he’d be the favorite for the #1 pick if he didn’t reclassify.

His defense is ***… per the no ceilings guys. They still have him late lotto early mid first… I think that is fair.
 
Emoni Bates is only 8 days older than Anthony Black and is a full year younger than the Thompson twins. He obviously can score the ball at an elite level. I still have faith in him. Where is he currently projected to go? I wouldn’t be surprised if he trends towards the late teens early twenties by draft time.

A lot of guys look great playing against trash. Them in their current league is similar to the borderline nba guys that go to China and look like superstars. That doesn't mean that I don't think they can be really good players but it sucks having to judge guys basically from pickup games.

Still grown men. Again… Giannis played in a garbage league. You can see how good they will be… you can see their strengths and weaknesses. The jump shot is the only reason for concern on them.

They also went out and played in The Basketball Tournament, which has many high level basketball players. They did an overseas tour (not really sure how good those teams where considered). They've been out there playing basketball in front of cameras like @Handlogten's Heros said. OTE basically just seems like a Prep School where they have the teams play NBA style basketball, but I dont think the talent level is that bad individually, just a bunch of young guys trying to play up and down style.

ote is horrible competition where nobody plays defense. that's why it was a smart decision for them to play there. because you are right that college exposes guys a lot more often than it elevates them. either don't play at all or go play somewhere where nobody cares to defend and the coaches don't care.

Again, I'm sorry you don't have eyes. Future pros play in college against plenty of terrible competition. The style of play is just different so it doesn't look as uneven.

I wouldn't say "expose". It just puts them in a style that is nothing like the NBA a lot of the time so it makes them look worse. If you put any of the non-top tier college teams on a OTE court it would probably look similar. There's some very highly ranked HS players outside of the twins playing in OTE, it's not a bum league as far as talent goes.

i would agree with your point about them not being exposed as much as them being put into a style of play that doesn't always display their talents. regarding OTE, yeah, the talent is fine, but as i mentioned, it's very lax style where defense is brushed aside - it's easy to shine.
 
I just see the college game as so muddy and so much different than the NBA. Dudes deciding to go somewhere that they can focus 100% on basketball may not be a bad thing even if the competition isn't great.

i'd argue, not only is it not a bad thing, but especially for them, it's a good thing. as cy mentioned, if you're in that range as a top 5 prospect, playing college ball is much more likely to hurt you than help you. the thompson twins, shaedon sharpe, dante exum, those guys did it right. now, selfishly as a college basketball fan, it effing sucks when they decide to go g league, not play at all or go ote, but for them it's a wise choice, imo.
