Fire up the Trade Machine

Sexton is young so I would rather package him in an upgrade trade with a low end team where we give away picks.

But at this point I sort of want to see more of him.. and keep him as an insurance if JC skips town.

That’s why I said if we re-signed Clarkson. If Clarkson leaves we obviously hold onto him.

More I would say. He is widely considered as one of the best wing defenders in the league and has good offensive game as well. Has completely shut down Donovan twice (8 and 12 points).

I think its closer to 3 unprotected firsts plus players. Not quite Donovan price but not too far either.
It might be true but that’s a bonkers price imo. OG is good but has missed a lot of games over the last few years. I wouldnt pay that price but a team like Phoenix or Miami might. 2 unprotected picks and some sweetener is the fair deal. If they get three then I think the acquirer may end up with some buyers remorse.

Only has 1.5 years of team control… for Utah I’d hesitate to even do 2 unprotected picks. Not arguing on his trade value with you… just saying that’s where I’d draw the lines.

Well Lowe said he is worth as much as Mitchell so I'm kinda downplaying that assessment.

I agree that his contract is a huge risk at that price.. especially since he isnt eligible for designated vet extension or whatever it is called and likely wants to test FA after current deal.

Wasn't disagreeing just an FYI... I think its just crazy and the contract portion should be weighed a bit more. I think Lowe said the price could get in the Don neighborhood... not necessarily that he is "worth" that.

There is also a big difference between like a Lakers first and a Dallas future first. I could see Dallas saying OG is as good as we can get so give our three firsts and send back Bertans. It might be worth it to them. I have a hard time seeing us going and putting in 2+ premium firsts so we can be a 5 or 6 seed for a couple years maybe.

I can only see us acquiring a player if it was a pretty amazing deal. Think there will be a premium on OG and not a discount... thats all.

Lowe didn’t say that he said he could command close to (Toronto will ask for) a Donovan Mitchell like package.

Yeah, for Anunoby, I can’t imagine any team offering as much as we got in the Michell trade, although his price is high no doubt. At some point in his team building (assuming he keeps Lauri and Kessler) Ainge needs to find this type of player, along with a talented playmaking point guard, for the Jazz to be a serious contender imo. Really hard to get physical two-way defenders like OG. Can’t win a championship without defense.

Raptors say no. I would also be very hesitant in trading for Trent since he is an unrestricted free agent.

He has a player option. Maybe we agree to a contract extension before trading for him.

yup. too injury prone to give up that much for. not efficient enough on the offensive end and probably not as good defensively as his reputation would suggest. i wouldn't give up two unprotected firsts for him.

bottom line, if the asking prices is three firsts, he's wildly overrated.

I don't think there is any incentive for him to agree to an extension at this point. Especially when it comes to a new team.

and trent jr...no thanks. he's been a high volume, low efficiency guy for most of his career (this year he's made a jump in efficiency), but he doesn't do anything else. it's actually shocking how little he contributes outside of just volume shooting. all he does is shoot, and he's been inefficient at that. doesn't even really get to the line much. gross.

people see a guy like trent jr and think - wow he scores a lot of points let's get him. it matters how a guy gets his points and does he contribute in other ways. efficiency is king in the nba these days. this year he is average in that respect. but has been well below average nearly every year of his career prior to this.

he averages 2 rebs and 1 assist. you'd be hard pressed to find another wing in the league who plays 30+ minutes who is so inept in that area.

one last thought on OG and trent jr - they are main cogs in one of the most disappointing teams in the league this year. that alone doesn't speak very well of those two dudes ability to contribute to winning. that's on a team that also has pascal siakam, scottie barnes and fvv. it's not like it's them and a bunch of scrubs.

He is an above average defender and like you said his efficiency has increased this year. I’m not exactly sure what your expectations are but for what we are giving up in that deal we wouldn’t get much better than Trent Jr.

Scottie Barnes has been extremely disappointing this year.

I would be tempted to say yes, but it is not a no brainer. Trent would be nice 2 year addition if healthy, but maybe not an ideal fit. Gay needs to go. THT has his moments, but is not great. That draft pick is likely the Nets pick and one of the last 2 or 3 of the first round, so it is basically not much better than a early second rounder and yet it has a guaranteed contract tied to it.

Trent is opting out so it may be a 3 month deal and then he is gone.
