What's new

the Jazz need to go after.....

Whats your suggestion?

Not signing anyone worth much and letting AK walk next summer and going after a legit big then. For me, Kendrick Perkins, if he regains his health, would be number one. He wouldn't cost too much and we could use his toughness and defensive prowess at the 5. If he re-signed with Boston, there are other bigs there too. Marc Gasol and Al Horford, both of whom play two ways much better than Booze or Okur do, to name a few, though AH is really more of a 4.

From a Hollinger chat on ESPN:

John, what does Utah do with the Boozer TPE? Anyone in particular on their radar?

John Hollinger:
Damon I don't think they'll use it til next year's draft. They still have a 6M TPE from the Harpring trade last year, and they have their full midlevel exception. Only way Boozer exception comes in is if they identify a $10M player they want that another team wants to dump -- again, Okafor comes to mind -- but the issue for Jazz is that such a move would put them precariously close to tax. That's why I think it's better kept til draft day next year, can use to take on salary from teams trying to generate 2011 cap space.

I hope to soon hear that the Jazz are dealing with Udonis Haslem. Not a sexy player, but someone who could play both big spots, hit some shots, and play some defense.

I think going after undersized PF's is the last thing we should be doing. We need someone with length to back up the PF spot. I like Haslem a lot but not for us. We need a big back up big man.
Haslem cannot play both big spots........he is 6-8? He can only play PF.

Can't Miami sign him with Bird Rights? It's a tax issue with them, not a Cap issue.

They have to renounce him to clear the cap space. Until they renounce him, he counts against their cap at 150% of his previous salary. At least I think that's the percentage. I do know he counts against it until they renounce him.

Who is this big man you speak of?

I would rather have AK back up Millsap and sign another wing player to play some of AK's old minutes. And play Koufos at the PF spot.

Your are right about there not being any free agent PF's available. But signing haslem would probably mean a 3-4 year contract and that would limit us. I would rather Develop Koufos and use AK's versatility this year while waiting for a better options for PF.

And we do not have a chance at Haslem either way. We can't offer much more than other teams. And utah is not a place he will want to play. So it doesn't really matter anyways.
Trust me I like Haslem a lot as a role player. Just not in this situation.
