Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I think the price is a lot lower for a Collins vs OG and I don't think the production difference justifies the higher asking price.

The team that should trade for OG is the Grizz. Have the picks and can add Zhaire or Roddy or something like that. They have a chance at a title and that could really solidify the squad. Might cost 3 picks cuz pick quality is kinda meh.

I'd be all in on Anunoby. Hard worker and team guy who doesn't need the ball and won't throw fits if his usage is 1.5 percentage points less than he'd like.

As many have said, this season is pretty much a success story whatever happens... pretty much. But we can still derail this thing by making a big, stupid move, like bringing in a guy who would push our best player to a less ideal role simply because the new guy is more one-dimensional and has to be used in a certain, narrowly defined way to provide some return of investment.

I cannot fathom why Ainge is so obsessed with Collins (if the reports are true). So, so weird.

I'm guessing he just smells blood in the water.... he's a shark. If we get Collins it will come with significant draft comp.

OG boosts defense, rebounding, athleticism. He fits into a top contending team. He also doesn't hurt on the offense. Low usage. He can be traded in a year if the Jazz drafts someone better.

Maybe the coaching is more about defense?
Maybe. If thats the case though it would seem like there would be an even amount of coaching going around as the whole team defense is bad. And Sexton isn't the worst. Not even close. I rarely ever see Hardy coaching up KO for example who is possibly the worst defender on the team.

I like MacMahon but he also kept repeating we weren’t going to take back long-term salary in a Donovan deal and we did the exact opposite of that.

The fact that him and Tony are both saying the same thing about Sexton tells me that it must be coming directly from their sources in the organization.

Regardless what the media guys are saying, I think it’s pretty obvious that Sexton is being groomed for the floor general position. Personally, I think he’s shown an incredible amount of growth in that capacity.

Our beat writers and reporters have been wrong multiple times in the past 6 months. They sometimes get told things the front office knows isn’t true. They aren’t the end all be all. They often report a lot of good stuff but it’s not gospel. Remember when we weren’t taking any long-term salary back? We weren’t trading Donovan?

I think he wants to be a starting pg... I think we would love for him to get there... I am not sure we believe he gets there or will plan around it. I think he's a worker. I think Hardy's approach of being hard on him is fine as long as he continues to play him and take the good with the bad.

The mental side of the game will be a struggle if he is a "floor general". If you had a guy like Haliburton or Ball then Sexton can create and things should line up well on defense and in the playmaking department. His first step is amazing and I think he is getting solid at making the simple reads... he made a pass last night to the top that kinda impressed me (Beasley missed the three).

It will really just depend on what else we get. I think he will always take a few more dribbles or be a bit more shot oriented than an ideal pg would be... I think his burst and power are a great tool to have, so if the other stuff comes he can start or if we get the right backcourt mate he can be a starter. I would guess his ideal role on a title team is 3rd guard but I'm open minded... and I am sure the Jazz are too.

Collin is absolutely a guy that would have some fans in front offices and some skeptics... FO doesn't have like consensus takes they release... TJ likely has a few folks that he talks with and some he trusts more than others.

Sexton is just not a starting PG for a contender. No reason to really try to develop him as such when it probably has a direct negative impact on what's his actual talent is.

True, I mean I like Tony Jones a lot - very personable and accessible guy. That being said I think his role is primarily PR and not investigative reporting.

I'm encouraged with the way Hardy is developing Ochai and Walker and giving them more as they seem ready for it. I trust he will do the same with Collin. I am convinced his hands are tied on Rudy Gay until after the trade deadline.
