Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

Agreed. I feel like the nets did better though. Kinda like the jazz and cavs trade. I feel like we did better but both teams won.
Suns win for the remainder of this season.... but they better hope they build up Ayton trade value or they might be screwed for a long time.

Even if we forget the CP3 expiring contract and age.... Ayton contract with KD+Book means they are stuck with either a big-3 including Ayton or in a big-2 without proper draft assets or cap space to upgrade depth and starters around the 2.

KD and Ayton combined cost:
79M in 2023-24 +36M from Devin Booker (expires after this year)
84M in 2024-25 + Booker new deal
89M in 2025-26 + Booker new deal

They wont get a huge haul for Ayton, and thus cannot build a big-3 with KD+Book+someone else (no assets) unless they first trade away Ayton and do it through free agency.

What do we still need at this point? Clearly we have gone tank mode, so it would make sense to move Clarkson and maybe Kelly.
Prime target would be a young PG or wing with some upside. Any thoughts?

I would call NO and see if we could pry away Dyson Daniels.

This has been an insane trade deadline. NJ just gutted their roster, crazy. They saw us do it and thought, "hey we can do that too", but they didn't get quite as much for their stars as we did for ours.

They gutted their roster and still have a stacked roster of very tradeable players who can keep them in the playoffs.

Yeah but they went from presumed contender to hey we might get to the 2nd round. Was maybe more of a surprise gutting than ours was last summer. I still think we got more assets for our stars than they did for theirs. Time will tell I guess. And time will tell who can do more with those assets.

On paper before games where played if you told me both packages I would take the Suns w/ Bridges over Cav w/ Lauri for sure.

With Lauri's breakout I would say we got the better deal though.

Also think the Suns last pick is unprotected and the Wolves pick is top 5. So taht's a pretty big difference.

I love Daniels but there is no way the pelicans think of moving him without getting something really really good coming back.

Wiseman is a bust and Jordan Poole will be on one of the leagues worst contract starting next year so we help the warriors out by taking on two bad contracts to help them maximize their chance of a title this year+flexibility to make moves the next two seasons. We get two GSW's unprotected or lightly protected firsts from 2027 and 2029 and hoping they will suck by then. Klay/Steph/Draymond will all fall off by 2025.

Clarkson averages 21-4-4. He's really good. Jazz can throw in a pick as well. Pelicans got enough young talent and they will have more coming in. I dont get them not making a strong win now move.

Clarkson has to go today, but KO and Gay should go too. Among those 3, I hope to get an only moderately protected first round pick and expiring salary

Yup .. the culture completely changed these last few days. I don't think there's any way out of this for the rest of the season. Players don't seem too happy about these moves.
The team was gutted and got very little back. You can make tough trades but the players need to see something coming back. They had come together and done great things against the odds and now the FO dumped on them. Maybe a good move but culturally this move could role into next year. Ainge does not seem to be one who creates any kind of trust with the players. If I were Laurie I would be asking myself if this was the kind of place I want to be long term.

Ya'll think Lakers would have done last night's trade if they knew that Durant was heading to Phoenix?

If we do move on from Clarkson I hope it gets him in a position to chase his ring. I would love to see him win. I would miss him, I have loved him as a Jazz man.

Lauri is an all-star for the first time in his career. He loves Utah. He loves Hardy. He knows the team has an amazing cache of resources they'll use to build a team around him. Wouldn't worry about that.
