Offense or Defense?

Yeah, our defense is rough... but we're not moving the ball enough to score either. I think it would do a world of good to Pickup our offense in practices more than defense right now.

What does the greater part of jazzfanz think?

Biggest problem I see on both offense and defense is our guys don't know/trust each other. We have a group that needs time. End of 2010 playoffs the only players we had that are still on the team are CJ and Milsap. Since then we have added a dozen rookies and second-chancers. With time (to rebuild-don't tell KOC I said the R word) both off and def should improve. Sooner rather than later I hope. I don't want to see too many more lob passes to someone cutting the wrong direction.

Defense.

Their offense was bad against Denver but with less turnovers it was not actually a bad showing. Defensively they are about as bad as any NBA team I've seen in a while. Their defense needs to at least slow teams down. Right now the only reason they were in the Denver game as long as they were is because Denver was missing wide open shots.

Defense is the bigger problem and it is the part they need to address most.

Edit: Also I think Ty needs to set a precedence that this team is going to play defense. Too often with young guys they get away with being lazy on defense because they can score. With a young team like this it seems a good idea to let them know that they must play defense to win. The offense will come. But defense is mostly about effort and thinking.

Defense can create offense, but the offense needs work.
Passing to Big Al and not doing anything is like something out of an idiot

Off the top of my head it seems offense. This team can't seem to hit an outside shot if their life depended on it.

I say offense too. At any given point in either of the games we've played, I saw a bunch of guys in Jazz Uniforms. Not once did I see anything resembling a play. You never REALLY know what's happening on Defense, especially in a new system. You know what you're gonna get the second the play is called on Offense. I feel like no one really knew what was happening at any given point in time.

Maybe the Jazz Offense is just as complicated as the triangle offense and takes a couple years to implement properly, but in order to win you just gotta put more points on the board than the other team. We don't seem to be able to do that.

THis. My vote is chemistry/trust

Obviously BOTH need a lot of work.
Teams with an offensive mentality tend to slack up on defense; don't play as hard on D. Anyway, we don't have the super-star 1-on-1 players to be successful at that.
Personally I'd like to see a team out there with a defensive mentality. Play HARD for 48 minutes; we've got the depth to not have to worry that much about fouls. On offense we need to maintain that same aggressiveness in every aspect; play with focus and SMART, pass the ball with a PURPOSE, not these marshmellow passes I see way too much. And that goes back into the Sloan era too, when DWill and AK were the only decent passers on the court, and sometimes Memo.

The real issue is chemistry. I voted offense (we are worst in the league at allowing the ball to be stolen), but the difference is marginal.

Both,

We looked lost on offense and just as lost on defense. I don't know what Ty is trying to do on offense. The offense looks like a Jerry Sloan offense run in slow motion.

Not even slow motion. More like a Jerry Sloan offense where everything is run halfway, then given up on.
