2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I actually think there's a chance even in the 8-10 range that the Jazz may view Black as the best player available.
I like black and Wallace had the injury so not sure if he has been slowed down by it. I think they are very much on the table but we might place more emphasis on them because of positional need.

It may depend on just how the draft plays out but I could see us spending for FVV (not my preference) or trading for Tyus Jones or addressing pg with a vet because it’s likely our biggest current need.

My dream (non top 4 anyway) would be to land Black and Hendricks. Depending on where Washington landed I wonder if you could do Minny pick plus another future pick for Morris and their lotto pick… Morris is the stop gap pg until Black is ready… and I get both of my guys… IDK just spitballing. It will be an eventful summer… maybe not as eventful as last summer lol.

Give me your guys personal rankings of these 8 players:

Ausar Thompson
Keyonte George
Jarace Walker
Can Whitmore
Anthony Black
Cason Wallace
Nick Smith Jr
Gradey Dick

With the Jazz in mind:
1 Ausar Thompson
2 Cam Whitmore
3 Keyonte George
4 Jarace Walker
5 Anthony Black
6 Cason Wallace
7 Nick Smith
8 Gradey Dick

I'm still holding out hope that your prediction comes true and we end up trading for Dame in the offseason. I'm not really interested in FVV or Tyus Jones, I would almost rather just roll with Sexton as the starting point guard for the time being.

It doesn't sound much like that is a possibility... I'm still curious if Dame "dies on that hill". Its a weird decision for both player and franchise... but maybe they trade Simons and find a decent big man.

Don't sleep on Tyus. Dude is a monster when he's a starter.

Damn...he's averaging 19/8/3.5 and shooting 53% from the field and 51% from 3 in 10 games as a starter this season. I didn't realize he had been that good.

He did the same thing last year as well. The griz record without Ja was crazy last year at 20-4.

If the Jazz are going to try to compete next year, I don't see them rolling with a rookie point. I do think that the Jazz WANT teams to think that Black is their guy as well. Getting that larger wing with our needs and their availability in this draft makes the most sense.

I actually think Black would be a pretty good paring next to Sexton.

I've been ripping a lot of guys for their poor finishing around the rim, but the more college basketball I watch the more blatantly obvious it is that it's just a completely different game. There are like 4-5 guys in the paint at all times between the two teams. It's just a mess. I still have question marks about the guys who are struggling to finish, but maybe I should give more credit to the guys who are performing relatively well.

Anthony Black has a really suspect jumper IMO, but half of his shots come at the rim, he gets to the line at a crazy high rate, and his percentage at the rim (59%) isn't amazing but also isn't terrible compared to the field. I worry that if the jumper doesn't come around he might not be good enough with the ball in his hands....but with more thought I think he's going to be just fine because he will get to the rim and finish well on an NBA court. It will be enough to keep him on the court, but he probably needs a big development in his shooting and/or passing to be an above average offensive PG but his defense is great.

Cason Wallace doesn't get to the rim or FT line as much, but he's shooting 68% at the rim and that's with only 9% of those baskets being assisted. I don't like making guarantees, but it's really hard to imagine him not being a really good player in the NBA. He's so solid across the board. Great at the rim, decent in the mid range, decent from 3, good form, excellent stocks, excellent AST/TO ratio, good positional size....he's got a lot to like, he's just a little boring because he doesn't have a lot of athletic burst. But if I'm to remain consistent, I often say athleticism is overrated when it comes to potential.

I'd be really pleased if we have the chance to draft either of these guys.

Would your drafting strategy change for the Wolves pick if we got Wemby?

For instance: if you had to take one of NSJ or Hendricks, who would you select in a vacuum? Would that change with Wemby considering we would be starting Lauri/Kessler/Wemby across the three front court spots?

Basically would having 3 guaranteed front court starters make you shift emphasis to finding ball-handlers/creators.

I look to see what that pick is worth in the veteran pg trade market.

Sexton also needs a much faster trigger on catch and shoot opportunities if he is to play next to another creator as a starter.
