And before you question my loyalty, I work the swing shift... Kind of difficult catching Jazz games when you work from 4:30 PM to 1:00 AM...
Corbin reminds me of Leslie Frazier and that's not a good thing... Yeah, he's a lot more animated, but he seems to be in denial about where this team really is at this point... And that is in rebuilding mode...
It took Leslie Frazier half of the NFL season to figure that out and we may have lost 1/2 a year (or more) in development at key positions that were ultimately filled with young talent as the losses/injuries kept piling up...
When you get 2 young draft picks early like the Jazz did, you need to throw them to the wolves to see what you have... You don't put Burks on the DNP list or play Kanter less than 25 minutes a game... And if Big Al, Milsap, or Bell have a problem with that, then they need to be shipped in a trade for some other young talent that doesn't have any room to gripe...
That may be harsh... But players in all professional sports want to say that they are part of a "business"... Well guys, that is the way "business" is run in the USA...
Now to my thoughts on the game...
Bell is a stiff and IMO deserves NO playing time... Big Al bounced back tonight, which is good, but I saw him lolly gagging in the 3rd quarter like a few of you have said... If I were coaching this team, I would tell him that he better get with the program or he's going to get shipped out! He looks like a player that realizes he's on a cellar dwelling team again and thinks he can go through the motions... You can't let guys like that take up roster space on your team... They are cancers and that spreads to the rest of the team...
I admit... I didn't think Howard was a good signing at the beginning, but at least the guy hustles his *** off... And like some other poster mentioned in another thread... It's nice to have a SF/SG with the ability to post up... Too bad Corbin doesn't know well enough to utilize this more... But that is because he's a horrible coach... JMO
Once Howard gets his shot going... And if he stays healthy... I think he's going to prove to be a good signing...
Hayward is starting to worry me a little bit... He's starting to remind me of a poor mans JJ Redick with more size. The reason why I say "poor mans" is that Redick at least has some consistency shooting the ball, whereas this kid does not... Now he is a good passer, but unless he's going to play the point, that doesn't hold much merit at SF...
Kanter is going to be good folks... You can see that he's getting it... He has good spacing, is good at help defense, and can teach Jefferson a thing or two about "fighting" for a rebound... The kid is only going to get better... It's just going to take some time... When he shot those free throws tonight, his stroke reminded me a lot of Dirk Nowitski... He needs to get that shot going or maybe just needs to have the guts to pull the trigger... Maybe the coaches are holding him back, I don't know... But he has the potential to be a great one and you can see it!
For those of you that said that CJ Miles bulked up... I disagree, he's FATTENED UP! It's effected his perimeter jumper and now he's even more inconsistent than before... I also saw him laboring down the court a few times... This guy is replaceable and maybe we should trade him while he still has some value...
The lineups/matchups were HORRIBLE tonight! Why not try Kanter with Al, or Favors with Milsap?? Why not try Burks at the point coming off the bench?? Why not reward Howard for his hustle and start him at the SG or SF?? These are all similar questions I started asking myself when The Vikings started out 0-3... It's like deja vu and I'm telling you guys, Corbin better wake up or he's going to end up hurting himself and this team in the long run!
All in all, I expected a seasoned team like the Spurs to own us tonight, especially in their building, but I didn't see Corbin doing much to try to help the team either...
Thoughts??
