2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Kind of seems like some guys currently in the 15-30+ range could actually be more exciting/higher upside than some of those in the 9-15 range. Wonder if the draft ends up shaking out much different than we think, especially after the top 10 or so.

When we come back to this draft in five years time, it's a guarantee that at every spot we picked, a good player was available. I really hope Danny is in his bag this Summer and nails the picks.

@Tony Jones keeps mentioning JHS… I’m hoping it’s just his analysis and not some insight. I’m out on JHS… no thanks.

Someone else with connections near the team said the Jazz like JHS. They think he can be something like SGA--a big, two-way, three-level point guard. He doesn't have elite burst and doesn't put much pressure on the rim right now, but he's good at changing speeds and he has pretty advanced feel. If Tony Jones keeps bringing him up, I think there's something to it. He might be available at #16.

My question is, what happens when they bring in Bilal for a workout and he blows the doors off. Also, I think they should take a hard look at Kobe Bufkin.

I just dont see what there to get excited about. At 28 sure, but at 9 no way. At 16 I'm still taking a lot of guys over him. I guess the appeal is that he has a great combo of size and PNR ability. I think he probably will be at least a decent spot-up shooter. But I really dont see how he is any better than Air Podz and Podz, despite being a Sophomore, is only 4 months older than JHS.

I dont think there is much to it. Tony is like us, he's a fan of draft coverage and projecting players. If Tony is bringing him up it's because Tony likes him and he knows Utah is looking hard at playmakers.

He can be Shai if Shai was awful a the rim and never got to the FT line (his best attribute).

I've heard that Shai - JHS comparison multiple times now. It's classic bait. JHS was a good mid range player and Shai is a very good mid range player. Both are very crafty, and yeah I could see JHS becoming very good like Shai is in the middle game. I get that this is why the comparison is made.....but it completely falls apart because Shai is elite at things JHS is awful at. The one skill may be comparable, but there's no way in hell they are comparable players.

Because clearly if someone compares a player to another player it must mean that both players have to be equally as good.

It's not about who "good" they are, they just have very different skillsets as total players. I wouldn't compare two players when one player's very best attribute is another players worst attribute. I don't compare players on one skill/area. Like I wouldn't compare any college player who can't shoot to an elite shooter.

Comparisons are usually pointless anyway because it's impossible to look at a current player and only see them as the prospect they were coming out. Now it's easy to say that Shai always had these tools, would be this good, etc. The day before the draft even the most bullish people on SGA would never think he'd be a 30ppg, first team all NBA type player.

Ceiling and floor arguments are mostly pointless draft talk that don't really mean anything.

i get all the criticisms of JHS, but for some reason i do like him as a prospect. i watched him a lot last year. i saw him a lot in HS even. i saw him look really good and saw him look horrible at IU. but for whatever reason, overall, he just looks like a dude who is and will be really good at basketball. that said, no chance i take him at 9 and depending on who is there at 16, i probably pass on him there. but if i had a third pick around 18-24 and he were available, i'd probably pull the trigger if i didn't get a lead guard earlier in the draft.
