Game #5: Hornets at Jazz, January 2nd 2012, 7:00 PM MST

I think the game plan is to feed Al then space the floor with shooters.

Late in the game Jefferson made a nice cross court pass to Howard from the post. Then Howard used the space created by the defense sucking into Al to drive the ball and force contact on defenders closing out on his drive.

That may be but just standing still? If Al has it on one side drive to the basket from the other continue thru and maybe he will hit you for a 3. Something!

I can't really say the offense stagnates because of Bell though. I agree with everything else you said though 100%. He is simply a placeholder until someone else proves themselves worthy of starting. I think everyone else is better suited coming off the bench at this point. I could see a case for Howard starting now alongside Hayward, but that is it.

The flex can get the wing the bell on the baseline cut on the low block. Bell is useless if he gets the ball there (happened about three times, passed back out to the safety valve each time). It also gets the wing the ball in triple threat position on the pin down at the elbow extended about twenty feet from the hoop. Defenses know Bell is only good for one of the threats, shooting, and can't do the other two, passing and driving, so they take away the shot forcing Bell to either pass back out to the top, or keep the ball while the screening big fights for post position. Stagnation every time. The only other thing Bell will do with the ball is try to do something he knows he's not good at, and he takes one or two dribbles trying to drive, he has to pick up the ball in bad position, blowing up the play. Stagnation.

It's not necessarily his fault. He's just not good for the offense being played right now.

Like hearing Burks in the post game say that defense is the way he will earn more minutes. I am so happy he has Bell to mentor him and show him how it's done on the court.

Because your boss tells you to.
Because you are paid millions to.
Because it is good basketball

Justiying your bad actions on the bad actions of others is a pathetic excuse.

Because when you cut, and your man knows Jefferson isn't going to pass to a cutter, makes it easier for him to double team.

That is when you would hope that the coaching staff will see the true problem and do their job. Hope is the key word.

As for the pick and roll defense, I'd say Jefferson was the worse offender for most of the game. Had a really good hedge late in the game, but it's usually his blame on a pick and roll bucket, whether he's guarding the pick and roll big or the off big. Millsap hedges hard, so Jefferson has to come to Millsap's man, while expecting his man to be picked up by the off wing or a recovering Millsap, dependent on the off big location. When Jefferson is on the pick and roll, the guard generally gets by him. I'd say most teams will look to put Jefferson's man in the pick and roll, knowing they'll be at an advantage.

I thought today was a good example of why Raja starts. He didn't make any mistakes on either side of the floor, played hard, defended well, and didn't hurt the team. I would like to see his minutes reduced to strictly the first 5 minutes of the 1st and 3rd, but I see his importance to the team at this current time.
.

1 rebound and 1 foul in 19 minutes. So bascially he got one board and one more than a dead man would have gotten.

When all you can say is "i didn't hurt the team" then I'd say you were pretty worthless

Meh. I would like to see him down to around 10-13 minutes, but I thought he played better than his stats show.

Just got back from the game, here is my two cents on the bell conversation. With his shoot gone all he does is continue the motion offense and doesn't spread the court cause his man doesn't respect his shot! Also when he came out of the game and Howard came in moving Hayward to the 2, him and Harris played well off each other. I also have been noticing it in other games and it usually ends in a Harris or Hayward open 3 point shot!

Gross.

CJ and Raja might be the worst 2s in the history of this franchise. Man they're worthless.... And what the freak is up with CJ's retarded fouls? LOL got stuffed by Jack twice...
