2023 NBA Draft Megathread

We all know that David Locke stat deep dive isn't always accurate; HOWEVER, he did have stats on players who show low athleticism, and Anthony Black was on that list. Anthony Black is also on my list of players who can't shoot to save their lives. I always wonder, can you teach someone who can't shoot to be a good shooter???

I wasn't impressed by Black's shooting either, but I wonder how much of that was NSJ's health since that shifted more of the perimeter defense toward Black. The thing that bugged me with Black was that he looked like he was not even in the game when the ball was not in his hands. However, he has great size and defended well. He is a decent option at 9, but is not my top realistic choice.

What stats show low athleticism? Lmao

I’ve said it before and I will keep saying it. 3PT% as a freshman in college is pretty much a useless stat when trying to project if a player will be able to shoot it well in the NBA. The spacing in college basketball is terrible and defenses are designed to stop one or two guys.

The two things Locke considers for athleticism are transition percentile (horrible) and isolation percentile (kinda, but not really). Transition = athleticism makes sense, but transition percentile =/= transition ability. Not even close. It doesn't surprise me that Black ranks low in those categories because of the nature of those numbers. This is going to make certain people butthurt, but this is a terrible way to assess functional athleticism.
