2023 NBA Draft Megathread

This great thread is becoming the pet peeve thread for me today. One of my great pet peeves is when people try to incorporate race or religion into everything. It is why I rarely ever go into the general discussion threads anymore. Sorry to inform, but they do not have to be a factor in every aspect of life despite what TV or social media might tell the world. And since I will probably be told "That is because you are *fill in the blank", no I do not fit most stereotypes of people living in Utah or of Utah Jazz fans either.

Now, back to the Jazz and the draft please.

You verbatim said it's different being an father or uncle.

The impaction that GG's mom cannot be stern/real whatever with him because she is a woman is ****ed up man. Having a parent as an agent is bad. It is not bad or worse simply because she is a woman. Get that **** out of here.
The relationship is different. It just is. Maybe it becomes awesome because mothers are better at certain things… I literally said maybe she’s the tough love type… I’ve seen both. She may be capable of that. I’m not gonna phrase things perfectly… it’s a message forum… maybe should not have reference dad and said aunt or uncle.

You are weird. How did I peddle the idea he doesn’t have a father figure… Jesus man you are setting up a hundred straw men that don’t exist. I didn’t say it would be different if it was a man. You assumed that… I simply said there is some biology where mothers care different for their kids… I’ve witnessed it first hand. Dads are also very capable of extreme bias. I wouldn’t want either as the agent unless they are exceptionally sharp or experienced. It might work out.

I suppose momma bear and face only a mother could love were phrases made up by white dudes who were racist and sexist.

You literally said you have a problem with his mom because she is a woman and that it would be different if it were a man. You don't know **** about what GG's mom or his family dynamic is like. And for the record, family dynamics are very dependent on cultural and socioeconomics conditions. So I do not give a **** about your first hand witness unless it's a first hand witness of interacting with GG and his family. There are so many people that would laugh in your face at this idea that mothers are not tough and their children walk over them. It is me, I am laughing in your face at this assertion.

And yes, you verbatim said it would be different if it was a man and even in this post keep trying to prove your point that woman cannot do what a man can. If it would not be any different if it was a man, why do you feel the need to keep establishing this difference? Bull ****. If there's no difference, there is no need to keep harping on these supposed differences between men and women.

You seem to be confusing yourself.

It's very clear you believe in a certain set of gender and family dynamic norms that agree with your experience as a white male.
I’m biased by my own experience… for sure. So are you… but if you think there isn’t a stronger biological connection between mothers and offspring I think that’s just pretty much science. Maybe in my experience that manifests more as coddling and in different cultures it manifests differently. Either way… I am very cool with his parents being super involved in all aspects of his life but to represent as an agent is not something I like.

Boy if I said that I didn’t mean it. It’s very much a biological connection to moms that i was trying to point out. Not a man woman thing at all.

Believe what you want man… I’m out. Apparently I’m a sexist racist if I imply mothers have unique biological connections to offspring.

I mean, I agree that parent/agent thing is probably a bad idea, but it's more based on the lack of experience.

If my mom was Mark Bartlestein I'd want her to rep me.

It’s experience and bias. As a father it’s hard for me to tell kids what the need to hear sometimes. It’s hard to detach. When your kids hurt you hurt… and sometimes it leads to not seeing beyond one particular moment and may lead to short term bandaids to alleviate the pain. Maybe it becomes a benefit… I will not question it here though… lol.

If it's not a man/woman thing I would suggest not saying it's a man/woman thing verbatim and then going on to why it should be a man/woman thing over and over and over in following posts.

Agent = Parent, probably not good. But it is not bad or made worse because it's a woman and not a man.

Sorry for derailing things... I'm done with the convo lol.

Barlowe said the player to watch in the G-League Elite Combine is Jazian Gortman of OTE.

per ESPN they gave him a "94" rating which is the same as Derrick Lively, Dillon Mitchell, Dariq Whitehead, and Nick Smith JR, so a top 5 HS prospect from this draft class.

Not sure what his stats are (the OTE site where they have the stats is buggy on my desktop for whatever reason) but he's a hyper quick guard with a shot that looks pretty smooth.

For anyone interested here is Game 2 of the OTE Finals which features 4 draft prospects (the twins, Gort, and Martin) and several future draft prospects in the coming years. The OTE Finals games where stylistically much better basketball vs regular season OTE. Much less of the transition stuff due to the unique rules.

Also, for people who really like to dump on OTE and call it garbage competition.

The starting lineups for City Reaperz and YNG Dreamerz have a pretty insane level of talent and size. How many college games did yall watch this year where both teams had a 7' center with a 7'5+ wingspan?

Yeah, some of these dudes are pretty young, but the talent is real and they construct their teams in a way that mimics NBA size in a way college teams dont.
