2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Have a wild suspicion the Bilal/OKC buzz is a smokescreen. Feel they'd prefer Grady D. It would make sense to add elite shooting to that roster too.

Or Hawkins.

OKC typically explores all kinds of trade scenarios, which makes it less likely they'd promise a player. OKC could also be targeting a trade-up for Jarace Walker to play as a 4/5 next to Chet. I think the Raptors are more likely the team that promised Bilal.

Have we had any hint or reporting on who the Jazz like in the Lottery? I know it would unusual given the fact that we don't want to tip teams off. The easy obvious one is Cam Whitmore not sure on anyone else.

David Locke tends to sell his listeners on multiple players around the Jazz's draft range. It's partly to manage expectations, imo. He's mentioned Wallace and Bufkin recently.

I'm brewing a personal conspiracy theory that the Jazz are targeting a trade-up to take either Cam or Jarace, while maintaining a pick in the lottery to draft Coulibaly, Bufkin or Hood-Schifino. Jazz could be swapping picks with Orlando (#6 and #11) and giving up future picks to pay the difference. Orlando would take #9, #16 and one or two additional assets. Jazz and Magic seem like natural trade partners.

At 28, if I'm looking at shooters to add, between Ben Sheppard and Julian Strawther, it would be a decision.
I think Strawther’s insanely effective floater is getting overlooked. There are a lot of guys I’d be happy with at 28 but he’s fairly high on my list of guys that I think will realistically still be on the board.

I also think players with good positional size and put in effort on defense means a lot even if they don’t have awesome defensive athleticism. Can still be really useful in a team scheme and/or off the bench.

Dallas at 10 and Atlanta at 15 are prime trade candidates for us.
It looks to me like there are quite a few opportunities in the middle part of the draft (and maybe even a chance to pick up an extra pick in the late 1st and early 2nd if there’s someone that the FO really loves and other teams don’t).

Yeah but that just his opinion based on his numbers analysis. TJ in comments gave a very different picture.
Yup, he is just the only person directly working for the Jazz that I’ve heard comment. Personally I think we know they want both a point guard and a high potential wing. I know who I like, but they just aren’t talking as much as in years past.

Coulibaly could be a good get for them at 9. He is use to playing with a big with a lot of gravity.

Could you imagine a whitmore and Wallace draft?

I mean we tried. Did you see some of those lineups we were using those last few weeks of the season? Once we really started to tank we still ended up winning more games than the front office wanted to. We easily could have finished with the same record as Portland, only would've needed to lose 4 more games...Hardy was just too good.

You said it in your post. Once we really started to tank.

Waited too long
