Did you watch him at all in games?

I had to look his number up after 15 mins at one point because he was invisible on the court.

So he will be either limited to playing a secondary ball handler off the bench, on a team with veteran leaders and on ball savants, until he develops a decent pull up game. he can't make threes. it makes no sense.

That's funny because I did catch all (or at least part of) all three of Tennessee's March Madness games but I don't remember a single thing from him. He looks ok on paper though.

Black only attempted 2.6 threes per game in 35 minutes and made them at 30% clip (they were probably wide open too). Man I just looked at his stats for the first time and im surpised how poor they are. Played lots of minutes (35 per game) so I expected high assist numbers if nothing else. 3.9 assists is WAY less than I was expecting. 5 rebounds is decent. 70.5% from the free throw line isn't going to cut it. 45% from the field is a little subpar for me. 30% from three isn't good. 3 turnovers per game is bad. 2.1 steals is great though.

From what I can tell looking at stats is that Black is a poor shooter, doesn't get many assists, turns it over too much (basically same amount of turnovers vs assists), is a decent rebounder and good defender with good size. That aint doing it for me. I was shocked by the assist to turnover ratio. I knew he was a poor shooter but thought he would average like 8 or 9 assists and 1-2 turnovers. I was already sour on him but now even more so.

I've come around on Black, but I had similarish thoughts right out the gate on him. He was getting a lot of hype as a Lonzo/Giddey type, and while there's some truth there, those guys were truly elite passers. Look at what Lonzo was doing at UCLA and what Giddey was doing in the AUS league before entering the NBA. He's a good passer and maybe very good, but I wouldn't call him elite especially when compared to other PG's. Lonzo/Giddey are elite compared against anyone. Black, he's very good for 6'7 but is he really that much of a better passer/playmaker than Cason Wallace? By how much? Another thing that I think he gets too much credit for is being a point of attack defender. He can get upright and struggle to get around screens from time to time.

One of the reasons why I've come around on Black is that I do believe in Will Hardy's development. No matter who he put out there, Conley, Sexton, THT, Dunn.....they were all just fine playing PG so I think Hardy will get the most out of Black. But he is more of a toolsy player and not exactly this passing genius that some make him out to be. But I'm sure Hardy would also sprinkle some of his magic on any other PG we may draft as well.

As much as I would love to **** on @Saint Cy of JFC , there's a version of Black that doesn't develop enough skill/shooting to be much more than Josh Green on offense. He might stand in the corner, and not because he's a corner shooter, but because he's not good enough with the ball to warrant it. There were a lot of times at ARK when he was doing this.
 
Maybe it's just that time of the year where we are picking apart prospects too much, but I am souring on the idea of trading up for anyone....Cam, Twins, Jarace, Black, Hendricks, I'm fine just taking whoever falls tbh. We take whoever falls out of that group or Bilal/Dick, then take a PG at #16. Feels unsatisfying to take the leftovers at each tier, but that might be how this draft plays out.
