2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I would still draft GG at his fair market value (not at 9). It's a bummer that he probably needs a baby sitter for the first year or so, but he's still worth drafting.

TBH, Rupert and Cissoko are guys worth swinging on too.

FWIW I wouldn't consider Cissoko a swing. After playing in the G-League I think he's somewhat of a known quantity and will get picked in the range he is projected.

Rupert could end up as a swing pick. We'll see how that turns out.

I don't think Hendricks is that special. For example, I don't think he's like Mikal Bridges. It's hard for players to players to develop a handle, passing and mid-range shooting if they haven't already shown signs of it entering the league.

If he hits and becomes a star, I'll send you a bottle of Johnnie Walker black-label whiskey anywhere in the country.

So at 9 the only acceptable outcome is “star”?

How many “stars” are there in the NBA? What if he “just” becomes a 6’9” floor stretching, high level defender that also rim protects?

“Booooooo!” Am I right? Almost no teams want or need those. Especially in the playoffs.

Meanwhile Scoot will get you 24 a night on 21 shots, in the regular season and be seen as a “star”.

I blame this on TikTok and Instagram….

Why? He'll guard maybe 3 positions, move the ball, and make a few of his shots. That's not a bust. He's got measurables and some guard skills. That gives him something to work with (think Troy Brown Jr.).

Rupert shot 35% from the field and 23% from 3 in the NBL this year. You are definitely right about him making a few of his shots.

Im excited for the look backs in a few years on this draft when Scoot is averaging like 24pts on 21 shots and people are doing victory laps over empty calories...
No one would take victory laps over those stats. If they did we would mock them.

I don’t think you’re understand the grasp of a swing pick. Rupert in the lottery is a swing pick. I don’t think he will warrant a lottery pick in a few years.

Players are drafted where their market value puts them. Rupert is probably going to get drafted in the 20s. Same with Cissoko. Same with GG. Even if you love a player, there's no reason to take him at 9 or 16 if you can get him at 25.
