2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Tony Jones with Spence today... said there are 3-4 guys they like at 9... but then named all the consensus 5 guys we've all talked about. Said they like Bilal and Kobe as well as JHS. Can't remember if he mentioned Wallace. Said he knows the few guys they like maybe more but he's sworn to secrecy.

Based on this I think its more likely we stay at 9 and move up from 16 to get one of the second tier guys we like (please be Bufkin or Bilal).

Talked a lot about Walker.. but I think that is him not necessarily just the Jazz.

Bilal is not a smokescreen, trust me. He might not be the guy at 9, but he's definitely higher than 16 on their board.

There is no universe where they take him at 9. He isn't likely to be there at 16 so all of the noise about him is, by definition, a smoke screen.

Taylor Hendricks is literally the best player statistically than any player any of us ever talk about drafting.
15 points per game on great efficiency, 7 rebounds, 1.7 blocks are better stats than any of Wallace, Bilal, walker, black, Bufkin, JHS, cam, etc etc etc.
He averaged more points than all those dudes. And apparently did it while not being able to created or having high usage. And that's a bad thing?

Is that why people are down on him? Is it because he is already good instead of he could potentially be good in the future?

Its just weird. Give me the guy that produces and does so efficiently over the guy that doesn't produce and is inefficient but might turn that around someday and increase the production and efficiency.

I think Hendricks will probably put up something like 14/7 with ~2 stocks and probably be your 4th guy in terms of shot attempts, unless he unlocks something he hasn't shown. He just isn't someone who is going to create much for himself. He'd fit right in with the LA Clippers, playing the Marcus Morris role next to PG and Kawhi. Maybe I'm missing something, but I think he's a starter-level player, just not a star.

It would be one thing if the Jazz had their cornerstone pieces to complement and build around, but they don't right now. In particular, their current players--Lauri, Walker, Ochai--all lack on-ball creation. So adding another guy who is limited with the ball is a formula for creating a stagnant offense or relying almost entirely on the point guard. And right now, we don't have a high-level solution for PG either.

You gotta look at the context of what was occurring at the time of the post. Sometimes we say things in the heat of the moment that we don't really mean. I certainly hope that has been the case with some of the posts from you directed at me for instance.
We all have our bad moments. I like to try to forgive quickly.
This thread is for basketball discussions not a child having a temper tantrum over a player he dislikes.

I think Bilal does enter the discussion at #9 depending on how things shake out. Bilal has some star potential by virtue of the fact that he can blow by different types of defenders. He can beat guards with his length. He can beat wings and forwards with his speed. He can also do it in a half-court setting. He's a mismatch.

I think there is a better than 50-50 chance that Indiana takes Hendricks at #7 if he's on the board for them. They've been leaning wing all draft season, and their reporters have been pretty open about who the Pacers like throughout the process. One of their reporters is doing an on-air interview tonight with Hendricks for local TV.

The real wildcards are Detroit at 5 and Orlando at 6, imo.

He actually worded the 3-4 guys a little different... he said there are more than 2 and less than 5... I simplified the math there. I think he was trying to say there are 5-6 dudes in that tier but they like a couple a little more... IDK.

Sorry that your analysis got buried but it was quite interesting thank you for that. I see Wallace at 18 on on Givony’s latest mock and I don’t understand it. If he falls that far we will definitely look back and wonder what everyone else was looking at.

It doesn't bother me that Cason is falling in the mocks, more chance for him to destroy expectations. I also think it gives him a better chance to get on a good team and be more successful earlier. I think the draft analysts can get a little too cute with their picks, but I'm also not going to pretend like I'm smarter than the guys that do this for a living.

I'm not saying you can't make a case for him at 9, but the Jazz aren't taking him there.
