It doesn't bother me that Cason is falling in the mocks, more chance for him to destroy expectations. I also think it gives him a better chance to get on a good team and be more successful earlier. I think the draft analysts can get a little too cute with their picks, but I'm also not going to pretend like I'm smarter than the guys that do this for a living.

I'm also not a complete homer, and I kind of get it. If you think he will primary play the 2 in the NBA, then he's not that exciting. If you are projecting him as a one, there isn't a lot of data to go off of, so you might question that.

I also think he needs to tighten up his handle. It's fine for a 2, but not good enough for someone primarily playing on
ball in the NBA. FWIW I have similar concerns with Bufkin and Black as 1s in the NBA and I genuinely have no idea how likely it is for someone to develop their handle to that level.

Aight. He's in my top-20 now. I would not be furious if they used 16 on him. Jazz need a glue guy as badly as they need anything else, and Jaquez has some useful grit and zip to him.

That sounds more like a hard trade decision rather than draft decision

For the draft they just draft who is left out of wemby, scoot, and miller. Easy peasy.

Tony Jones with Spence today... said there are 3-4 guys they like at 9... but then named all the consensus 5 guys we've all talked about. Said they like Bilal and Kobe as well as JHS. Can't remember if he mentioned Wallace. Said he knows the few guys they like maybe more but he's sworn to secrecy.

Based on this I think its more likely we stay at 9 and move up from 16 to get one of the second tier guys we like (please be Bufkin or Bilal).

Talked a lot about Walker.. but I think that is him not necessarily just the Jazz.

Any mention of Cam's medicals? Like, is that really a thing?

Which version of the Jazz? Olynyk was pretty impactful as a stretch shooter and interior defender last year. He just isn't the most switchy on the perimeter. Olynyk can also playmake.

On that note, Hendricks is probably the best playmaker and ball in hand scorer in the entire draft

Yeah, KO is more about size and girth. Not a rim presence. Maybe Rudy Gay a few years back before he was washed would be an example.

Just like Cam, Cason falling makes me wonder what’s going and it scares me if it’s health related. Same thing for Brice/any other prospect that is falling with some health concerns.

Yep. KO has size and girth..... But no interior (or exterior) defense. That was just funny.

I think Hendricks will probably put up something like 14/7 with ~2 stocks and probably be your 4th guy in terms of shot attempts, unless he unlocks something he hasn't shown. He just isn't someone who is going to create much for himself. He'd fit right in with the LA Clippers, playing the Marcus Morris role next to PG and Kawhi. Maybe I'm missing something, but I think he's a starter-level player, just not a star.

It would be one thing if the Jazz had their cornerstone pieces to complement and build around, but they don't right now. In particular, their current players--Lauri, Walker, Ochai--all lack on-ball creation. So adding another guy who is limited with the ball is a formula for creating a stagnant offense or relying almost entirely on the point guard. And right now, we don't have a high-level solution for that either.

With Hendricks I think it mostly comes down to how good his shooting is combined with his defensive IQ and how much better he can get at rebounding.

I just dont see a lot of upside for him doing things offensively he isnt already good at. I think at the NBA level he will specialize. The good news for him is that he has enough athleticism and size to be a useful finisher, but I dont see him as someone who will be finishing in traffic (unless it's the occasional alley-oop)

Defensively I just dont think he's a special prospect for switching/rim protecting like some do (I think this is the biggest gap between how I view him vs the more popular opinions). I think he will provide some solid weakside protection, but nothing game changing. I think he will be able to switch onto guards/forwards in the flow of a game, but he isnt going to be someone you put on a wing/guard to slow them down. I think overall he will just kind of a be a guy out there defensively, nothing negative, and probably slightly positive relative to your average NBA PF.

In some ways I would almost prefer this because then we would likely be able to walk away with a really good wing and a really good lead guard whereas if we trade 9 and 16 to move up we will only be able to get one or the other.
