2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Uhh, there were multiple bits of info out there. We know who the Jazz liked, were just unsure of the order, I think that's true of basically every team.
Super high on Bilal. Loved George but didn't think he'd get to 16. It was a very predictable pick at every spot. No smokescreens.

Not a big deal, just interesting.

The Jazz reportedly liked JHS as well. The pickk at 9 could have been Whitmore, but 16 there was mixed reports, but knew it was between two guys

True though, it was just a very predictable (and boring?) draft all the way around.

Jonathan Givony: The lack of surprises. By NBA draft standards, it went almost entirely the way we thought it would, starting with Brandon Miller being drafted second (the worst-kept secret in the NBA the past month) and continuing with the fact that we were able to project 18 of the top 24 picks precisely to the right team, and 28 of the 30 players who ended up hearing their names called in the first round overall. That doesn't normally happen. Sure, there were a couple of players who went higher or lower than we thought they would, but overall it might have been the most predictable draft we've seen in some time.

Definitely wanted more movement and surprises. Hope all our players are good. But last night didn't live up to what we've been building towards for months.

I love the folks acting like it’s a funeral in here… Hendricks is going to be awesome. George is a big swing but if he can go to pg it has some serious upside potential. Sensabaugh is a bucket. If his Medicaid were clean he’s probably a lotto dude. It’s a fair swing.

FA and trade will address some of the “needs” I believe. Gotta take a fresh look at the FA list now that I know what we did in the draft. I’d say JC is gone and Sexton may end up on the block if George is good early… but I think it will take a while. Dude dropped a bunch of weight for the pre draft process… I think he’s committed… plus his suit was dope. Y’all gonna love these guys soon… give in now… don’t fight the feeling.

Honestly I sorta get the vibe.

I walked away realizing my wettest dream draft was possible and we passed on a: Tay/Cam/Sidy draft.

That’s wild

Having slept on it, I think Cam might just be dumb as a rock. His interviews are uncomfortable. A lot of his answers are like him trying to say more than one word and he has kind of a blank expression a lot. Coupled with his lack of feel/BBIQ/vision and teams might just be like “this dude doesn’t have it to be in the NBA.” It just started to feel like he was all the way off a lot of teams boards.

I also wonder if teams specifically tested on the feel/IQ thing in their workouts with some drills and he just bombed on adapting.

He went to an absolutely terrible culture. Unless Amen is just the coolest dude ever and pulls that team together, they will be a disaster.

It's a little crazy to me that the Jazz reportedly had Keyonte at 10, which would likely have him above Wallace, Bufkin, and JHS. They seem to acknowledge the need for developing a point guard, but rated the guy with seemingly the least amount of point guard skills of those guards.
Can’t force it. I actually appreciate that they didn’t jump their board to fill needs. I don’t agree with their board. . . but in the long run, it’s a much better path to success just to draft the best player on your board and let the coaches figure out fit, roles and rotations.

I don’t think the Jazz are worried about positional need at all right now. This is rebuilding. You take best player available.

Chances are 75% of the current roster won’t still be with the team by the time they’re truly competitive again.
Plus, Danny turned this roster over twice last year alone. If it’s not working. . . he’s going to do what it takes to fix it.

Ok, I heard Cams medicals were extremely bad, not "yellow flagged"
Any word on why his medicals were bad. We’ve heard leg and possible heart rumors. Also, hints that he was the guy vaping in the locker room. How does stuff like that not get leaked in greater detail in this “age of information “?
