2023 Trade Rumors and Gossip Involving the Jazz

It depends... rumor is Bertans and 10 for Collins and 15 was a no go. Bertans is dead money. If we sent KO (minor asset) and they got 13M in savings (huge relief) as well as no further obligations it does a lot for them. I believe they emptied the clip on second rounders so the Kings protected pick is likely the prize if we did that. We could also just take the full salary in and send nothing back if the prefer.
Bufkin.

Bufkin?

Does us drafting Hendricks change that? Am I the only one who doesn't want John Collins or Kuzma or Tobias Harris now that we drafted Hendricks this high? We need a PG much more than another 4...
I doubt Hendricks changes much. Jazz have very few6'8 guys. Could use more

Bufkin.

Bufkin?
Not sure. I think we took Key in the spot we'd have Bufkin... IDK.

I just think Atlanta has a bit of a corner they have painted themselves in. The kind of need two trades or a John Collins trade and a wink and a nod agreement from Murray to re-sign. If they trade Murray if the return is 70% of what they gave up then that would probably be the route to go... but i still think Collins is grumpy... but they could ride that arrangement a little longer. If they give up stuff to dump Collins then they still have the Murray issue of FA and may have to move him midseason.

Not a lot of optionality. Their ownership group should admit they are dumb and just eat the tax but it seems that is not an option.

What would you be willing to send asset wise if we traded for both Collins and Dejounte?

Remember Luka scored 23 points in a Jazz victory over the world champs late in the season. Potter also had a double double in that game. Is Collins that much better?

I only trade for Murray if I can do a renegotiate and extend. So we'd need to send Sexton/KO to do that and still have space for that. On top of that a pick I suppose... but not much more. I'm not in love with that type of arrangement because we get expensive and inflexible if Collins doesn't improve his value. It could be a three team deal where we take back dead one year salary for a team that wants collins.

They are going to deal Collins, I think it's pretty obvious.

Dealing Murray would be a disaster and I'm pretty he was the owner's son's call. Would be pretty shocked if they deal him unless they get enough back to save face, which I don't think they would.

Hunter might be known as being disappointing mid, but he's still a better player for them than Collins and his deal is decent. He has a better shot at gaining trade value than Collins does, so they keep him.

Dealing Collins is the move. Can save them a good chunk of change and he hasnt impacted winning for them the last two years. Plus you know Quin wants a 4 who is a more willing 3pt shooter. His contract is a disaster though so they will have to give up some future stuff to get off him.

They don’t really have much future stuff except the Kings pick and their own 2029 1st.

We might not have a pick next year so the Kings pick next year would probably be what the deal is.

This... did want to point out paragraph 2... I have been in these father/son business decision things and the emotion goes really so much further than you might think. Seen many a business make horribly illogical investments and decisions because of this dynamic. Have seen how contentious these things can get as well. They might be more reasonable than some of the folks I've seen... but this has to be considered if the son really did push hard for that deal.

I think the Hawks have just been holding Collins hoping someone got desperate enough to want to take a bet on him.

Now they actually have to dump him. Probably hoping there becomes a reverse bidding war to take him on as a dumpee, but his contract is too monstrous and I don't think they will get lucky. They going to have to be OK with parting with two first round picks to get off JC unless they want to take back salary with him.

And we might send some seconds, KO, Dunn or stuff like that to make it look less like a straight asset dump for Atlanta. I think they are about to do something stupid... just depends on how stupid it is... either way I'd like to be in on that convo.
