Summer League Thread

I haven’t even used that word or mentioned OTE. So I have no idea what you’re trying to do here.

You got me though! Good one man.
French leagues have produced busts for a long time. That reality is all that is being discussed. Some people think that might be some kind of indicator, and others are saying it’s xenophobia.

And to reiterate a point I already made, the issue is not that there is a high bust to hit rate in the last ten years, it’s that it’s practically 100% (depending on where you start the clock, you’ll get Gobert or Wemby).

That and on top of it... the history of these low production/low minute international prospects from any league is uhhhhh... no good. There is some Saric's and some Bogdanovic's but a lot of Bender's, Hezonja's, Ntilikina's, Dombouya's, etc.

The tools, workouts, etc. would have to be so overwhelming for me to take one of those guys top 10.

I wonder if Matthew Mayer has already signed a 2 way contract with the rockets. If not then we should jump on it.

Hezonja wouldn't qualify as low production.

So why did you feel the need to quote my post and say something completely different? Never mentioned xenophobia and if the issue is historical success, OTE is legitimately one of the most irrelevant leagues to this conversation because they don't have a history. Those are two things I never even mentioned so I don't know what to respond to lol. I guess you can take that up with someone else.

The post you quoted said that you should be able to distinguish different players between players from the same league. For example, you should be able to distinguish Wemby from Bilal. I think that's important because French League players were good, until they weren't. If you relied on the league they came from too much, well that might have been the thing that led you to overrating someone like Frank.

Sarah Todd said on ESPN700 that the Jazz really like Luka and she expects him to be on the roster this season. Said he's worked really hard this offseason and even spent a week working out with Lauri before he went back to Finland.

okay, stretch it out -- how many major hits on the level of Gobert and wemby have there been in non-French European leagues since 2013? List em all

You asked if we think you hate Bilal for the **** of it and the answer is clearly yes, you do.

If you decalre yourself someone's #1 hater it means we probably cant take your analysis seriously.
I get the impression that he hates Bilal as a prospect mainly because he hasn't been very good at basketball.
I know that's why I was down on him. I like prospects that are good at basketball way more than ones that are not good at basketball.

Assuming no Keyonte for the rest of the way, and I’m doubtful that the Jazz will play Hendricks of Sensabaugh. . . can Agbaji, Samanic, Potter, Juzang, Ross, Hauser and Justice step up and keep winning?

It sucks not having the three draft picks out there now, but it would be encouraging for the Jazz 2 way players and G-League guys to actually continue to win games.

Brother no one is saying France produces talent on the level of America.
If this is truly what you think then it's weird to be so high on dude who is from the country that doesn't produce as much talent who also didn't play basketball very well in that country.

I think that's fair, I would just say that's a general rule more than a French specific thing though. Like Dragan Bender falls into, for example. Killian Hayes, probably not though he was putting up numbers for Ulm and that was a big part of his case. Anyways, I think that's a legitimate question mark. It's fair to question Bilal on the basis of his low production/his rawness. I don't think saying he's overrated because he's French makes much sense and it's such a poor argument when there are much more obvious concerns.

Being French/Playing in the French league, is not a real knock on Bilal. That was the point of contention. If your argument is production-centric, I do not disagree. In fact, I've been saying that is the real argument against Bilal. What I disagree with is specifically knocking him because he's French, whatever is meant by that. I feel like it's really digging to try to force some connection to Bilal-Hayes, for example, when Bilal is raw as hell. The weirdness in this whole "French = Overrated" thing is that you don't have to dig deep to find question marks about Bilal.
Now I think I see the disconnect. You think he is down on Bilal cause he stunk and is from France.
I don't think that is the case. I think that if Bilal stunk in a league out of Uruguay or something then he would still be down on Bilal.

I would like the Depaul center, the Virginia point guard and the Marshall guard to get major minutes tomorrow. Let's see what they have.

He's good enough and there isn't anyone else out there (that I'm aware of) who is better

I've been mostly impressed with what I've seen from him at the end last season and so far in summer league. I think he's earned a roster spot.
