The Gordon Hayward Experiment...you know the drill

At the risk of heresy, can the Gordon Hayward Experiment be shelved for a while? After his April performance, I expected him to come in, be confident, and take a big role in being one of The Guys on the team. Instead, he looks as timid as he did after Deron threw the ball at him, he frequently drives the lane and gets to the basket, but too often passes to guys at the three point line (read: Raja Bell) when he could shoot a layup. A quick hook and a benching might get his attention. Hopefully he snaps out of it soon because his lack of confidence is very concerning.

Or maybe he just needs to get laid.

This is the crazy thing about Hayward's game. He gets ALL THE WAY UNDER THE RIM before he passes it. It's like it doesn't occur to him to go up 3 feet before that happens, or even pull up for a short jumper, take a runner, anything. I'm going crazy watching it.

Or maybe try a reverse layup.

Baby steps. He plays like the game is capture the flag and driving is just touching a pole. If the layup is frightening to him, I'd at least like to see what he looks like stopping short and shooting in the lane.

I just want to see him do something with a purpose in mind. Everything he does right now looks like he's making **** up as he goes and when it's just about to get good, he panics. He's become the coitus interuptus of basketball execution. Shoot the damn ball, son! Shoot the ball!

You know, CJ had a monster game at the end of his first year too. We have to accept that Hayward might not be what we all thought he was. Both CJ and Hayward were thought of as good passers and pure shooters when the Jazz drafted them. Larry insisted that CJ was a future star in the league. It's pretty clear now that CJ won't be, at least not on the Jazz anyhow. If Hayward becomes CJ, I wouldn't accept it as a success, but how are they different? Attitude? They both are kinda goofy cheerful players, and lately hasn't it been said that Hayward is lacking the nasty? Isn't that CJ's problem? Mentally not focused?

Hayward better get his game together or he's going to get passed up by Howard, which really bites for the rebuilding process.

To put Hayward into the same sentence as Chucker J. Smiles is blasphemy. A good friend of mine said something to me once, and I think it applies to you as well:

Log out of JazzFanz, and then log out of your life.

I'm letting this one go, but by all the Gods, if I see this kind of crap again, I'm going to have to verbally assault you via the rep system.

While I echo most of the sentiments here, if Hayward goes for that final shot, he'd have had his **** stuffed and if Al would've caught the pass then the Jazz win.

Watching the game I thought he was far less aggressive than he should have been. He had a couple chances to get easier shots but instead faded from the basket and missed. He avoided contact like the plague as evidenced by his 0 ft attempts. He also blew a wide open layup when he could have dunked it and missed a 3 when he should have passed to a wide open raja on the baseline, among other things. Overall a poor performance, i'm sure he'll be pissed at himself when he looks at the film. A learning experience for a 2nd year player.

He took it to the wrack once, and got called for a charge. At some point, he has to know that he's not going to get a call, so why bother?

Unfortunately, that was just bad basketball on his part. Fisher had position nice and early and Hayward got aggressive at the wrong time.

Agreed. Last season he would go at the rim and slam it home with 3 guys coming at him, or make a smooth move across he paint for a scoop pass to Sap for the dunk. This year he looks scared to death out there. Not sure what changed, but wow does he need to snap out of it.

Yeah your shot is not falling very well right now. That means you go inside to get some dunks/layups and runners, and keep taking the 3's. I really wonder what has shaken his confidence so badly.

I am happy that at least he is contributing with assists, steals, blocks etc most games, but man is it getting aggravating to watch him play go at things like a junior high schooler so much.

I would still much rather see Hayward in the game than CJ, but that gap is rapidly closing.
