2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Yeah, the reasons are he is tall, athletic, and can make spot up shots.

They went for an upside play and turns out he can barely play basketball.

I don’t think you can average 15/7 and 2 blocks a game in a good college conference as a freshman by barely being able to play basketball.

*A top heavy college conference*

He's had 4 G-League games thus far and he has yet to look like a NBA caliber player in any of them. It's been the worst case scenario for him thus far.

Ochai looked really bad in the G league and has been serviceable in the NBA some players just aren’t built for the g league

Yeah, but I think we are all hoping Hendricks is a bit better than Ochai, whose top end looks like a solid 5th option in a starting lineup.

He was injured and missed all of summer league. He’s a little bit behind the curve as far as experience goes right now. Let’s cut him a little slack.

FWIW, Hendricks had a sizable dropoff in production against top 50 opponents. I'm sure every player has a dropoff against better competition, however, so I don't know what's "normal".

I touched on this a little a while ago. When guys are the only scoring option on their team and play against teams with better talent they can just focus on limiting them while forcing the worse teammates to beat them. Oh yeah and you know college spacing is horrendous so that is at play on top of it.

Yep and I also dont think that ochai has reached his peak in year 2 of his career.

What you're saying is true, but it's true for pretty much every draft prospect. UCF did not run their offense through Hendricks in the first place. Again, I don't know what the normal or expected drop-off would be, but I wouldn't expect it to be worse for Hendricks versus other prospects. I watched both of the HOU games, for example, and it's not like HOU was focusing him.

Hendricks wasnt the only scoring option on the team. He averaged 15 ppg, so it's not even like he was scoring all taht much. They had 4 players average 10 points or above.

Hendricks just isnt good and he probably struggled against higher ranked teams because higher ranked teams have actual big men and Taylor was charmin soft in the paint.
